Re: Wheel/Axle prep - Graphite Packing
Graphite/Alcohol mix? Intresting. Anyone else seen this used? Seems to me that if this method was used it would have to be done with specific amounts of graphite and alcohol :idk: hard to imagine it would change the results that much If it had a "bearing"effect, it should have been faster...

Re: What to do between races
I would do a quick Mother's polish on the axles and re-burnish the wheels like Sporty suggested.

Re: Wheel/Axle prep - Graphite Packing
I've got to bring up this old thread. I think this graphite packing may have some validity based on our experience at Districts this year. My 6 year old son won the Pack races back in January. It was fairly close. Over the past 6 years, my sons and I have won the Pack 5 times. My daughter or younger...

Re: Son won BIG St. Louis district race today
Congrats on the big win. I am pretty confident that we don't even have 500 Cub Scouts in our District. That's incredibly awesome. At the risk of keeping "off-topic", the intent of the rules really go back to what the writer had "intended". You could always ask for clarification f...

Re: My Son Defended His District Championship!!!
 With a 4:1 ratio, I wonder if you could have gotten away with even less steer-in on the district track (say, ~2" in 4 feet)? :idk: Did you have a test track available before the race to determine that 3" was better than 4.5", or were you just "rolling the dice"? ...

Re: New Wheel Times Vs. Old Wheels
OK...I ran some quick numbers! This year, we ran trucks and a couple of extra fun races and I didn't have the time to pull them out of the averages but here are the numbers for the last two years. 2009 Pack avg speed 4.4379 2009 Districts avg speed 4.4415 2010 Pack avg speed 4.5933 2010 District avg...

Re: Light Pollution
we are using the Judge Timer and could purchase the Sunlight Max Option Well, if you are operating in that much light and knew of the problem before, I'm rather surprised that you did not get that option already. I'm not sure if that can be retrofitted to your current timer or not. Maybe John Shref...

Light Pollution
At our District Derby, we host it at a local shopping mall that has huge skylights on the roof, causing a significant amount of light pollution. It was so sunny this year, that we had to put a 10x10 popup canopy over the finish line (we do this every year) but also had to hang a NASCAR flag in certa...

Re: My Son Defended His District Championship!!!
JUST KIDDING! It was 3 inches in 4 feet. :D Fairly rough, aged Challenger track with homemade frame. Thanks - obviously the steer was strong initially because of Pack track conditions (likely because you were running a fairly aggressive CoM). As point of reference, may we also ask the locations of ...

New Wheel Times Vs. Old Wheels
I should have done more research on this with our own Derbies but I'm wondering who found that the new wheels were significantly faster than the old wheels? I am not totally convinced based on our results that I recall. We did not remove the step on the outer hub. Wheel prep involved reaming the bor...

My Son Defended His District Championship!!!
Sorry I haven't posted much this year. Ever since taking on Cubmaster, and starting a new business, I have less time than ever. I hope I haven't missed much new developments in PWD world! Anyway, my son defended his District Derby Championship this year (Webelos I). Being a Webelos, he did almost th...

Re: What did we do right?
How long was the track? If it was exceptionally long, and you had 1999 wheels vs. everyone else's 2009 wheels, the others should start out faster but your's would maintain it's speed for longer.
