Re: Teeeman & The Wheel Weight Wonder
Just have 2 things to say about this... 1) That is the coolest way to check a wheel I've ever seen, and I suspect the 2009 season will see a lot of those in use (both at the Scout level and the proxy racers). 2) I'm sure that with a little tweaking a good cheat could get a 2.2g wheel with an interna...

My home-made pinewood tools
I don't have access to a lathe, and my wallet tells me I spend too much on toys to justify buying wheels or profesionally crafted tools. I just wanted to share a few tools I've made (at a very modest cost) to work on my cars. My ultra cheap car ballance point finder thingie. One pinewood block, a sh...

Re: The Limit of Pine as a material
The car in my sig is made of laminated pine. The thickest strip is about 1/8th, the top and bottom were about 3/64th, before sanding. It's a pain cutting down the pine blocks, but the results were what I was after.

Re: Test track set up w / timers etc
The fast times could have something to do with the fact that your start gate is about 18 inches higher than "normal" (If I recall a BestTrack start gate stands @ 4ft)

I'm wondering how "dry" the compressed air your using is. If you don't have something to remove the moisture, most air compressors are going to push out some fairly humid air.

Re: Rail riding, narrowed front, and lighter wheels test
I'm also going to call inside edge friction from the rail ride. Your biggest time improvement before you went with light wheels came from graphite on the inside edge to decrease the friction. You made no mention of graphite on the lightened wheels. True, round, polish, and graphite the inside edge a...

Re: Shimming the axles, how many wax = regular paper?
I did find a decent alternative, btw. You know those self-adhesive envelopes? That strip of wax paper you pull off to expose the adhesive strip is roughly equal to just over 2 strips of kitchen type wax paper. It also doesn't have the potential loose fibers that could come from regular copy paper. J...

Re: Shimming the axles, how many wax = regular paper?
That's not a bad idea. As long as your not in need of an "odd" number of shims, that works well. Might work even better to have one "fold" shim, and one "odd" shim, leaving you only 2 shims to fight with.

Shimming the axles, how many wax = regular paper?
Stacking wax paper strips get's difficult after 3. Usually at that point I move to a single shim cut from copy paper. Anybody know just how many wax paper shims it takes to equal a single slice of generic 20# copy paper?

Re: Name the car
Beautiful car. Love the paint job. [moderator cut - league discussions should be done in the league forums] In the picture the wheels look to be stock. :? Is there a rule against mentioning or talking about any of the racing leagues? Not making trouble, just trying to stay out of it. Thanks ...

Re: Testing for the presence of oil
I only have one problem with the "graphite upon inspection" concept. Everybody has their own ideas about the best way to apply and break-in graphite. To subject each car to the same brand, same application, and with the same break-in runs, all serves to take away some of the creative think...

Hey, my wife came up with an idea for the car's name:

She thinks "Terms for Divorce" sounds better. Is this a good thing?
