Re: Pinecar Kit versus BSA kit - Axle & Wheel Prep
Randy, Go Bubba, Thanks for the suggestions. Axles are cut and I plan to get some extra caps. Is there a special wheel mandrel for these types of wheels?? None of my existing mandrels seem to work, the screw is too large to pass through the bore. I guess I could use the Pro Hub tool to enlarge the b...

Pinecar Kit versus BSA kit - Axle & Wheel Prep
Just when I thought I was out of Pinewood, a local radio station is having an open fundraiser for a local Troop/Pack for all the adults who's father never let them touch the car when they were kids. I thought I would enter just for some Pinewood fun. You had to buy the car kit from the radio station...

Re: New stop section for Pack track
Pinewood Daddy, I bought something similar to that for our previous stop section and I was not impressed. The material seemed to quickly wear down and once it got a slight coating of graphite, it was fairly slick. We had cars slide on a 3 foot length, hit the bumper and slide all the way back to the...

Re: Going Out on a High Note
Well Done! Curious... What was your average margin of victory? :D To be honest, I was so busy scoring the overall race I don't know that I saw many of the main heats. In the finals, he won typically by half a car length. His car was "pulling away" from the others on the flat. Not the fast...

Slotown, can you supply more details on the material?? I like the fact that it did not have to be cut for width.

New stop section for Pack track
This year, I wanted to have a better stopping system for our Pack's track. The old stop section was an ugly nightmare that frequently broke cars, bounced cars back onto the track and generally was a pain. Taking a few tips from the commercial systems and from a system Terry built, I built the follow...

Re: Going Out on a High Note
Time does fly. We have a great picture where we took my son's five cars and put them on the track for a final run. It was amazing seeing five years of his work from a fairly crude Tiger Cub car to a fairly slick Webelos II car all racing together. Perhaps just as amazing is that the Tiger Cub car he...

Re: Question on using body skins/stick on details
Tia, for my daughter's car, I used the flame skin on every surface but the very bottom. The skins are pretty thin and can overlap each other with minimal effect. I would cut away the area around the axles and keep that clean wood so you can rub in plenty of graphite. You should paint the car the mai...

Going Out on a High Note
My son had his final Pinewood Derby this past Saturday and he was again victorious!!! The pack had 61 cars enter and we ran a 72-car Stearns fragment with 20 rounds. He came in second in one heat, but won all of the others. From the Stearns frag, we take the top 6 for a CPN 12 heat final and he was ...

Re: Good/Bad experience on race day
We had our Pinewood Derby on Saturday and had a number of interesting "issues" come up. First, I think there must be some of the "old style" wheels still in the kits. We had two Cubs with those types of wheels and I am fairly certain they used what came in their kit. I caught one...

Re: Shaving Wheels
Get the Pro-Wheel Shaver XT & Pro-Hub tool from Maximum Velocity. I can shave wheels with .001 run-out. Highly recommended!! Do you end up with a substanially flat tread profile using the Shaver XT?? I am using it and I can get the diameter to be consistently .001 to .002, but the tread is not ...

Re: New Fastest Lube out there??????
Mike, not sure what you are aiming at with testing bore and axle prep testing relative to graphite particle size. In axle and bore prep, you don't want to reduce the axle diameter/bore diameter ratio by either shrinking the axle size or enlarging the bore. If anything, you would like to reduce that ...

Re: PineDesign - any feedback
PWG, I just checked and Pine Design does not handle S-shaped tracks. In fact, it doesn't ask anything at all about the track (long, short, wood, aluminum, etc). That was part of my disappointment. Much of the discussion here is for 32-ft wooden tracks. We have a 46-ft aluminum track and I was really...

Re: PineDesign - any feedback
PWG, if you have spent much time on this site, I don't think you will find any surprises in the Pine Design analysis of your cars. I was not impressed. If you already get the COG rearward, lift one wheel, prep your wheels and axles, you've pretty much covered what Pine design will suggest. If you ar...
