So tonight was the race...
I'm really tired tonight, but I wanted to share this for everyone who ever has replied to one of my posts, and even those who haven't, because I learn from reading from all of you. We started the car just a week ago. Michael finished 2nd out of 16 kids. Here are some pictures: http://picasaweb.googl...

Re: Really bad paint job
that's either fish eye's or orange peel. I am leaning towards orange peel. A few things cause that. 1. painting enamel over lacquer. 2. the primer coat not dry enough. 3. old paint, or not mixed / shaken well enough. 4. surface with oil finger residue on the surface. 5. to much paint applied at one...

Really bad paint job
I don't know if you will be able to see that very well, but we just finished putting the first coat of spray on the car, and you might be able to see how it is all bubbly like. What causes that? We are using some sort of black lacquer that we picked up in the model car section at Hobby Lobby. http:/...

Really stupid question: rail riding...
OK, this may be really, really, really dumb, but...
I see all sorts of posts that talk about "how" to do something to rail ride, but "what" exactly is it, and "why"?

"Recessed" wheels
Hey all,
I've seen on some cars where the wheels are recessed, so they don't stick out past the body. What is the best way to do that?
Thanks.

Re: Wheels with drilled holes
OK, I should further clarify my earlier comment about official BSA. I think I meant to say it needs to be originally unmodified. Any mods need to be done by us, not purchased.

Re: Wheels with drilled holes
Our only rules regarding anything is that it must be official BSA, and of course, 5oz.

Re: Wheels with drilled holes
OK, finally...
The search here wasn't quite as helpful, so I google searched this site specifically, and I found it: viewtopic.php?t=2805&sid=ea116ad0769b49 ... f723f4ec20
Thanks!

Re: Wheels with drilled holes
I'm pretty sure he stated they were BSA wheels, and that he drilled holes to drop the weight.

Wheels with drilled holes
I may be crazy, but yesterday I thought I saw a picture of a car with holes drilled in the wheels. Today I can't find it. Maybe I was looking at a different site. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Re: Race one week from tonight
Well, I'm not sure how much time we are going to have. Tonight is out because I am here at work until 4pm then have night class. It's been so hard to find time because my wife and I are both full-time students. We kinda put off building the car because I've been so busy trying to get all my classwor...

Re: Our first Pinewood Derby
Thanks for the response. What it actually is, is some PVC pipe that... I don't know what to say, pivots around I guess, and brings the pins down. I guess it all depends on what starts the timer? Not the best quality photo, but here is a link of the starting area enlarged a little bit: http://www.chr...

Re: Our first Pinewood Derby
Any time there was a derailment they reran the heat. I'm not sure if thats what everyone does, but that is how we did it. At first I didn't think it was too big of a deal, but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that was wondering if the time in the first run of that heat would have bee...
