Gyroscopic effect.
Ok this may be the dumbest question of all time, but considering how slow the board is right now I thought I would throw it out in the mix and no one would mind very much. I am basing this question off a demonstration in a science class way back in High School. The subject understudy at the time was...

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.
Doug, I miss informed you. Sorry about that. My initial information was based off touch. I checked again, visually this time. all three wheels are PLASTIC. They are grooved. (Think H shaped PWD wheel treads.) The rubber tires ride in the valley of the H. It was the edges of the H I was feeling and t...

Re: Taking heat for last yrs win.....What to do?
I have read this thread and I readily admit that several times it has made My blood boil. In My transition from infant to adult My Father taught Me many lessons that have served Me well in My life. The one that has served Me the most is self confidence. "DON'T let other people intimidate you. D...

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.
Stan,
Thanks. I will give the blade and guides a good look over In the morning when the sun comes up.
I'm guessing that the area of the guides facing the blade should be flat to the blade. If they are not should I grind then flat?

Re: Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.
Doug, Thanks for the response. The bearings seemed ok to Me, I tried making them wobble by hand before. I forgot to mention that in the list of things I checked, sorry. I will check them for warpage, but I have no idea how to properly check them for alinement. Your response makes Me think the "...

Help with a craftsman 10" band saw.
I'm not sure if this post is in the correct area of the board or not but here goes. I'm hoping there is someone here that works with these types of machines professionally, or is enough of an enthusiastic hobbyist that they can help Me out. I have come in possession of a Sears, Craftsman 10" ba...

Re: A Car Weight Experiment
Another item I missed is the analysis is whether or not the relationship is linear. Maybe there is a benefit in moving a small amount of mass to the wheels, but the function turns down and becomes a detrement when too much mass is moved. Yea, thats on My list. As I read through the threads I keep a...

Re: A Car Weight Experiment
Stan,
I can think of an option #6.
6. The mass added to the wheels caused a rotational imbalance significant enough to more than offset the reduced bore-axle friction and slows the car.
Just thinking "outside the box".

Re: How far back on the COG?
Rear COG can be a problem but it can also be a lot of fun for the crowd. At our PWD race last year we had a Tiger car with very aggressive CG that would slowly raise the front wheels off the track at about half way down the flat section of the track and pop a wheelie all the way through the finish ...

Re: Long wheel-base or Standard?
So the question becomes (IMO), when building a shorter wheelbase car are you able (skills and setup) to keep the increased "wobble" small enough that it does not eat up all the gains (and then some) provided by the increased "steepness" of the shorter wheelbase during the transi...

Re: Long wheel-base or Standard?
Presuming every thing else is equal: Examine the presumption. Stan, My apologies. I have a bad habit of thinking I have made Myself clear when I obviously have not done so. :D Presumption: Wheels, axels, Cf, alignment all perfect and the same for both cars. Track ultra smooth, level and clean. In s...

Re: Long wheel-base or Standard?
Note that on most current tracks, there is a span in the track in which the track under the rear wheels is steeper than the track under the front wheels. This affects the forward acceleration since the acceleration component added by each wheel is related to the vertical component of the Weight on ...

Re: Bad BSA Axles?
Teeman, I ran a workshop where we focused on just axles and wheels. The scouts absolutely loved using the tool. They couldn't wait for their turn and were pounding away with gusto. The axles turned out beautifully. The only downside is that some of the scouts are still developing their hand-eye coo...

Re: Car's Weight on the Ramp
Why am I envisioning a test car with outriggers holding wireless lipstick cameras, focused on the wheels? Spoken like a Totally Obsessed Pinehead! :) But ... The ride-on solution would be too closely coupled to the car under test and would probably change its characteristics, possibly to th...
