Re: Slowed Down at Districts
What was different about the track at the two events? (Brand, track profile, track orientation, leveling, setup, etc) It doesn't take much of a change in floor slope to knock 0.1s off a car's times! Exact same track. I coordinate both our Pack race and the district race. Our Pack has donated its tr...

Slowed Down at Districts
Son's won first in rank and pack race this year. Each year he gets better at building. Times on 42' best track were 3.03-3.05. Districts was Saturday after just shy of two months after pack race. His car lost almost exactly 1 tenth each heat. Times were 3.12-3.17. We left the axles and wheels as is ...

Re: Car Carry Case
I have a really secure and cool way to trasport and store my son's car. At least I think in my opinion.

Wheel Inspection Photo Sheet - Go ~ No Go
Good morning! Second year District and Pack PWD Chair here ... To help keep clarify things during wheel inspection I thought there might be someone that has created an inspection sheet for wheels. Kind of a go - no go sheet for an inspector to review if there are questions on his part and I might no...

Re: Car life cycle
Tagging along this topic of life cycle .... Son is moving onto districts. They ran 24 races at the pack. What is the thought of removing the wheels and axles to give them some TLC? Smoothing the treads. Repolishing the inner hub. Smoothing the axles with some 3 and or 1 micron polishing paper. Keepi...

Weight placement racing on Best Track
I know the thoughts on achieving the CM positioning ahead of the rear axle on a standard wheelbase. In searching the site, I was not able to determine if this might change when racing on a Best Track with its steep drop and long flat versus the traditional wooden track configuration. Would you want ...

Re: Graph paper
Thank you for the drawing aids for the Scouts. I made these available to our Pack so they could decide which they liked best.
Received several positive and appreciative comments from parents at the last Pack Meeting. Again, thank you for your contributions!!

Re: Graph paper
I received a couple of these. Some really nice work has been put into these design drawing files.
The boys will love printing several so they can create multiple options to chose from. Thank you for sharing your work and skills.

Re: Graph paper
Folks, Thank you for your offer to share. I want to make sure it is OK to share any electronic files within our Pack. Just easier for boys to sketch to scale with the axle slot locations noted and then have a parent transfer/trace this on the blank block for cutting. I have responded via PM. Thanks ...

Graph paper
Searched this site and an internet wide search conducted - not much luck. Are there any graph paper sheets out in the electronic world that can be used to help Scouts draw out their car? I can find 1/4" grid graph paper, but I wanted to see if there were some with the outline of the BSA PWD blo...

Re: Moisture in wood
Is this a valid step or just folklore and movie driven? I understand this may be among the many small incremental items to address as part of the whole. If one of those small pieces to the puzzle ... at what temperature and for how long? Never performed this step, but always looking to learn and imp...

Re: Open District Race Coordinating Question
Gentlemen, Thank you for your input. We are in accord with each other on the key points points you make. Ohiofitter - yes, any or all Scouts in the district can race, but not by my choice. Let me state my position. I was opposed - lone decenting voice - to opening the race for two reasons. First, li...

Open District Race Coordinating Question
Folks, Second year district pwd race coordinator here. Good Day! After bumping the entrants last year from under 50 cars to just short of 80 and upgrading the event on the whole. This district professional Scouters have asked that this years race be an open event. Last year, the top three from each ...

Re: Alignment - why do it in reverse?
What wheels steer the car? The ones on the downhill side or do they all come into play. If I get the car running straight going forward then I go to align backwards and the car turns in either direction is it the "back" wheels which are leading the car that causes the turning and thus shou...
