Back for more in 2017
Welcome back to myself, after a conspicuous absence... both boys are aged out of Cub Scouts and now I teach once a year at our local University of Scouting. IF there is anything relevant for 2016-2017 relating to any changes, updates, revelations or revisions to PWD construction and instruction, and...

Helping a new Pack
My son is completing his WII program with a different pack, and they currently have what looks like a P1 Plus kit. Photos below. What are some opinions of upgrade paths for this hardware? can a K series chip be installed on that board without modification? will such an addition give the capabilities...

A question about attack angle vs loss in kinetic energy
as always, forgive me if this thread has already been authored and explored, but as i was contemplating a wooden track build, my thoughts turned to the curved transition section. Here is my qeury - is there a measurable loss of energy in the curved section of bestrack style tracks as the cars are tr...

I did see the Stick.. my question has always been what is the accuracy and reliability comparison between led and "provide a light source" sensing systems?

A question of evolution - part 1, the pits and pre-staging
in the beginning... paper pencil and sharp eyes made up many PWD race management systems ... often also used now as a backup to the electronic equivalent. My question is this... where do we go from here? Here is what I envision, and I am inviting an open table discussion of what exists now that coul...

longtime no see.. good to be back!
Been a while since Ive visited, and enjoying the refreshing of my memories from previous years. I am in a new part of Orlando this year, the last year of my Sons Cub Scouting Program .. :/ The Pack he is finishing up with has a more basic track - haven't seen it yet, but going to assume there isn't ...

Race Replay with a ps3 EyeCam
I have read an article on a Scoutdads blog regarding setting up a 60fps playstation eyecam to effect a replay system, but his blog does not mention how the data is captured and stored and replayed -- would love some feedback on this possible combination of hardware/software, as the 60fps is a signif...

Re: How many lanes should I get?
Point of parlimentary proceedure, but I would say to anyone having difficulty with event length that you have to remember that it is NOT the number of lanes, but the number of RACERS that determines the length of your event. The rule of thumb is the number of racers=number of races x the avg time b...

Re: Axles in Revell Kits
The Revell wheels and axles are "officially licensed". The scout shop versions are "official". The image of the box Nicholas provides advertises " Officially Licensed by the Boy Scouts of America" and " Official Pinewood Derby Wheels INCLUDED!" So if there is...

DIST QUALIFIER OPINIONS REQUESTED (unless this duplicates)
I have an older version of this from way back, but age and time also provides wisdom from both: I currently run the District races as open invitation races, without regards for Pack Derby performance. Here are my primary reasons: 1. your pack may not have had a race, so the same rules apply to every...

Re: Axles in Revell Kits
By Revell kit, do you mean kits with pre-cut cars or a kit with a block of wood in it? Is that nail available in the plastic tube with wheels from China? This is something new to me and I will be an inspector. came out of this kit: http://store.alshobbyshop.com/images/products/display/RMXGrandPrix....

Re: Best Track Storage Box
I may recommend you build a duplicate box and split the load between the two. Another benefit is that if you expand the length of your track, you will have additional height within the boxes interior to stack more sections. I also recommend you keep an eye out for anyone remodelling or installing ca...
