Re: 2009 Family cars
The boys were 2nd and 3rd overall. I'm the pinewood chairman and I tell pretty much anyone in the pack all the "secrets" to car building. This year there were no run away cars, which is good I guess. The funny thing is I spend a lot more time on my car than my boys but they still beat me e...

2009 Family cars
http://home.comcast.net/~gravityboy/pinewood/2009_pinewood_cars.jpg Here are the cars my family ran in our Pack race last weekend. From L-R: my car, one I built for my wife, my daughter's car, my Bear, and my Tiger. Every year I enjoy building my car - this year a 1967 McLaren M7A. Keith R. Warrent...

Re: Pine & balsa official kits!!!?
The pack bought most of the kits in bulk and distributed them. The few that were bought outside the pack's sale were balsa - the rest pine. Turns out the bulk kits were not as 'official' as I thought. You guessed right - they were generic hobby shop (probably like the Pinecar brand) kits. At least I...

Pine & balsa official kits!!!?
Folks, we just had our derby and there were "official" kits made out of both balsa and ...pine!? Anyone ever heard of that? I googled and didn't find anything about pine boat kits. Was it an error? It certainly made for an interesting race... :( scoutstuff.org lists the boat kits as balsa....

Minimum vs. Cumulative vs. Average times for outcome
Group, I wasn't able to find a good thread in the archives on the timing methods available on a modern track with good software. I found some reference to 'fast' discussions ( http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=206 ) but none on deciding a winner. I'm not looking to start a points vs. timing d...

Re: Upgrading Piantedosi 3 lane and Judge- pics
Thanks Mike for getting the pics updated. I'm looking to update the start gate on our 2003 Piantedosi wood track. I'll borrow a few of your ideas as they look to work good.
Any issues with the gate dropping too hard and bumping the track?
thanks,
