Re: This year's PACMAN car takes first in Den and Pack

Actually, my older son who is now a boyscout noticed the pacman was facing the wrong direction. I promptly told him to hush!

This year's PACMAN car takes first in Den and Pack

Our son's car took first in Den and Pack again this year for the 5th (and final) year in a row. Off to Districts and hopefully Council where he also has been undefeated for 4 straight years!

Here is the PAC MAN car! :bigups:

Our son won Council for the fourth straight year!

Our pack did really well at Council races this year. The pack workshops are really paying off as the boys learn all sorts of speed tips. Our son won 1st place again with 5 of the top 6 speeds for his age group,Webelos I, and the day. From our pack we also had a 2nd place finisher and two 3rd place f...

Re: The "Viper" car won districts - his 4th year in a row

A reporter from the Augusta Chronicle just came and interviewed our boys about pinewood derb!!! We had to give credit where it is due though, and told them all about this sight!

The "Viper" car won districts - his 4th year in a row

My son won District pinewood derby again this year as a Webelos I. This is his fourth year in a row winning District  and we hope to repeat for a fourth year winning Council a week from Saturday. :nervous: Each scout ran 8 races (2x per lane). My son had the best 8 times of the entire day for a...

1st in Pack!

Another 1st place win in our den and Pack! The "Viper" car performed well. We knew we were slower than last year, which made the finals at Pack quite close. We also knew our rear axles were out of alignment (i.e., pointing right) while our front right axle was set up for rail riding pointi...

Re: This year's "Viper"car

Yes. It is wood between the front and back sections. The frame is a single piece of wood with the weights inserted. We reinforced the wood between the front and back by putting a skim coat of epoxy on all the wood surfaces. Hopefully it will be able to stand up to the bumps in the track. Our stop se...

This year's "Viper"car

Car is steering a bit harder to rail than normal, but we are pleased with the results.

Extremely short car

We are contemplating making a car that is only a bit longer than both wheels are in diameter. Right now our dimensions are about 2 3/8 in. long by 3/8 in. high (Basically a lead slug with wheels  ) We are going to make it rail ride through alignment and pulling the rear axle on the dominant sid...

Re: Two 1st place finishes at districts....

Well,...the council races are over! The boys each finished 1st in their divisions again this year! The races were more competitive this year but the boys' cars clearly were going to be the 1st place finishers. This is the last year of races for our Webelos II. :( Was fun again having people recogniz...

Re: Two 1st place finishes at districts....

Well, tomorrow afternoon is council races. The boys are excited about seeing their cars perform against the Georgia Carolina council's best cars. Youngest son is hoping for a "3-peat" and oldest son for a "2-peat". They will have a blast win or lose which is the best part.

Two 1st place finishes at districts....

The boys had a great race day at districts. They each finished first in their races - Bears and Webelos II. They Bear averaged 212.7 mph on a 49 foot Best Track. The Webelos II averaged 212.4. The cars had very little variance in time from first to last race (we broke them in less than we did at pac...

Repolish axles before district?

Any thoughts on repolishing axles before the next go around. Generally, we don't and have won council the last two years without repolishing from the time the car becomes ready for our pack races. I am concerned it may not be worth the alignment risk; however, last year we saw people actually drawin...
