Re: Anyone have any interesting hobbies??
Sorry Gang, Cornhole (Yes, thats what its called) is a backyard/camping/tailgating game. http://www.playcornhole.org/ It's a great game for everyone, cheap/easy to make and if you mention it to anyone thats never heard of it... expect guarded looks. Check it out, make a set of boards, sew the bags a...

Re: How do you Handle CNC cars?
As leaders/Akela I feel it is our main responsibility to guide. Keeping with that, we should know our scouts/children within the pack/group and their abilities and accessability to tools from basic to CNC. If a kid has superior skills leaders know, if the parent had more involvement in the build a l...

Re: What is your weight design?
Great molds! I've never seen shape/placement weights before. In our pack the boys usaully build their cars then worry about eight placement.
I was a patternmaker for a number of years (Foundry, not dresses)
so if I may ask: What Do/Did you make first the mold or the pattern?

Re: My 05,06.07 &08 PWD cars
Jeff, I do have more photo's, currently I have the posted photo's in my unrelated album on a Chevy truck site. I'll find a Photobucket type site to create an album there. The Tiger car "Failed" because I made a shape the scouts did not recognize, at that age the visual is just as important...

Re: Anyone have any interesting hobbies??
My main hobby is stunt kite flying, before the kids were born I competed individually and on a two and four man team nation wide. I dedicated almost 20 hours a week in practice. Now I see if the flags waving, I'll slip away for an hour or two of two line fun. I also enjoy: Camping Diving (I'm a reti...

Re: So, what does your username mean?
Real simple:
Charles is WAY too formal, easy for the scouts to remember.

Re: Any Lost fans round here?
I am addicted to Lost.
I watch with the intent to figure out whats going on before my wife does.
And as usual, at the end of the show we look at each other thinking, What the heck?!

Re: Great Goofs
My Great Goof was when my son was a Tiger, I wanted to build a car to inspiere the scouts on the possibilties of what you can do with a block of wood. Well, as a woodworker, I chose to make a plane. The scouts were thrilled and eager to see..... Well our final shop night prior to the race I unvieled...

Re: cutting metal on a wood-only band saw?
Another issue are the blade guides. Some bandsaws use blocks to brace the blade left & right to prevent drift, as well as one in the rear of the blade, better saws use sealed bearings that can take increased pressure from harder materials being pushed through. If you chose to cut metal- push the...

My 05,06.07 &08 PWD cars
I've been visiting this site for a couple years taking in all the great info and checking out the fine cars. I'm a Webelos 1 leader as well as Assistant Cubmaster here in Chandler AZ. I made these cars mainly to show the scouts to "Think outside the box". I failed miserably when my son was...
