Re: Kurtis-Kraft 500C

Thanks for the kind words guys. This car is my favorite of the ones I've built to date. It was a long process from start to finish. The body shape turned out to be a lot more difficult than I expected, so there were plenty of times during the build when I would set it aside in frustration. Everythin...

Kurtis-Kraft 500C

Hi Fellas, It's been a while since I've had a project to share with you, but I've finally gotten around to photographing the Kurtis that I mentioned ages ago. And here it is... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/korando/Pinewood%20Derby/IMG_4050.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/korando...

Re: My Last Car...Maybe

Thanks for the additional pictures Griff. The two that say the most to me are the shot of you and your son after the Pack race and the shot of the cars roughed out with the coping saw. First, the smiles on your faces are to me the best part of any project. Each time Andy and I built a car together w...

Re: My Last Car...Maybe

Glad to here that you're still up for a few more cars, and the ones you've listed would make great subjects! You should take another look at the slot car hobby. There are many cars in 1:32 scale that I think you'd find interesting. Also, I'm sorry to have used a term for the driver's compartment tha...

Re: My Last Car...Maybe

Absolutley fantastic work griff: all of the cars look great! My favorite is the Parnelli Jones Watson Roadster. Nice work on the paint. The blue on the nose must have been tough to mask off. It's kind of ironic to see your Indy cars, particulary the Watson, because the the car I've started planning ...

Re: Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

Here’s the group of cars we brought to the March 2009 District race. Andy decided enough was enough, and decided that fast was the way to go. We took what we learned from Eddie’s Pack race car and built this. It weighed in at exactly 5.0 oz with a COM of 7/8”. He made the right call and posted some ...

Re: Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

Here’s the next batch of Derby cars that I have to share with you. Eddie, my oldest son wanted to enter a car for the open class. He opted for a low profile car with an extended wheel base. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v715/korando/Pinewood%20Derby/Eddie601.jpg This car proved to be a learning ...

Re: Tom C 84 car

Very nice work sporty. The proportions look great and as GravityRacer points out, the track clearance slot fits in with the design really well. Nice paint and decal application too.

Re: Council win !!! 2009

Congratulations on the repeat at council - that's a fantastic record and one that can surely continue for a few more years. Terrific work. Were cars run on two tracks for the event, or was the painted wood track some sort of test track? Our council hasn't a race since we've been involved in Scouts, ...

Re: Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

First a correction; I just noticed that I referred to the next update as being Andy's car for the 2008 Pack race. I really meant the 2009 Pack race. Gee, it's April already and I still can't get the year right  Absolutely right dna1990 , the 1:1 is in reference to the full scale size of the re...

Re: Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

4/17/09 Wow, guys I’m flattered! Thanks so much for the kind words and the continued interest! The McLaren was a project that brought both joy and grief throughout the build, and Sporty is right, I have a lot of hours sunk into it. I never really kept track of the time, and after I finished it I reg...

Re: Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

Thanks for the kind words and for your interest guys. As mentioned, the whole family has become interested in the Pinewood Derby and this year we decided to field cars for my oldest son Eddie, my daughter Heidi and my wife Jeannie. I started in on one of my cars for the Open Class right after the 20...

Re: 2009 Scout car - The Barris Batmobile

Stunning work, absolutely brilliant! You did a great job to capture the look of the 1:1 car with it's very involved body shape, and also with the interior detail work. Very nice work, thanks for sharing.

Re: Oldie but a goodie

Fantastic craftsmanship sarge: I really like the fact that you not only used materials that were found around the house, but most impressively turned them into pieces that look very realistic. The paint finish looks great too. Nice work!

Derby becomes an addiction - fun had by all!

Hi all: I’ve been a forum member since October of 2008 and have had a great time lurking about on Derby Talk. Like many of you, I have found the forum to be a terrific source of information; as well as fun place to see some wonderful Derby cars. My Scout is in his first year of Webelos and has parti...
