At our district races a car that was DQ'ed for any build/design reason was allowed to run in the open class.
That still allowed the cub to race his car but enforced the rules.
BTW - the cars were scrutinized very closely and several were DQ'ed after initially passing inspection.

Re: Wii finished 4th
I've always thought there is something to be said for making a car with a definite 'front' or at least clear indication of which is which. Agreed. Take nothing for granted at staging time. If you do not get to stage your car then be sure it is obvious which is front and back. I raced a 1/4 inch thi...

Re: PWD "Demolition" Derby?
This is exactly why our district started having a smash derby at derby day.

Re: Eliminating the Grand Finals round... good or bad idea?
I think it would be great to have the whole pack there to see the awards handed out. We hand out the awards at the next pack meeting - which incidently is the very next night (by design). We hand out all awards that night including the place awards and the appearance awards. We usually have a real ...

Re: Quick opinion needed - awards for Districts
It seems our pack keeps adding appearance awards so more boys get some kind of award not just for speed. In fact, we gave out 1st & 2nd place ribbons for each appearance award. The first place ribbon had a small medal on it. Some of our categories are: Most Creative Most Original Best Cub Scout ...

Railrider with outlaw wheels
I ran a car at the pack derby this year in the open class with outlaw razer wheels. I set it up as a 3 wheel railraider steering 1" over 4'. Being my first RR I was hesitant to over steer it into the rail. It ran ok but I noticed it did not always ride the rail all the way down. It wasn't bangi...

Re: Dings on inside perimeter of DOM wheel
What if the track was not aligned precisely such that the center guide edge on your DFW side had very slight offsets at the joints that caused your DFW to catch and ding the wheel?
Did you observe that your car bounced off the rail around the track joints and then steered back to the rail?

Re: Rudder placement on hydroplane design
You can glue the metal "keel" on top near the back as a weight to balance the boat to push the nose out of the water. You don't need the weight underneath, the boat won't capsize. Use the plastic "rudder" for the keel/rudder again under the back of the boat. The hydroplane design...

Re: WEBELOS Compass PPoints
I would reason it's probably just a manufacturing discrepancy.
I don't know of any set design for a certain compass point to be different than the others.
Never really noticed, though, and I've been the advancement chair for the past 4 years and have seen a fair number of points.
That is odd.

Re: Weight Before Assembly/Paint
You can also just paint the top and sides of the car. Leave the bottom unpainted but finished (sealed & sanded) and paint to reach the desired weight. Final weigh-in at check-in.
I think we leave about 3 grams for paint since our cars do not have much surface area.

Does everyone in your pack have access to the track for testing?St_Louis_Racer wrote:We have the luxury of having the pack track set up in our basement.
