Re: Emptying the Gutters After the Race

We built ours out of 6" PVC pipe. To drain them, we drilled holes in the ends and put hose fittings on. Works awesome.

Re: Best Track

It may seem impossible, but that is what we had happening. It'll probably be a few weeks before we get a chance to set it up again because of upcoming activities, but I'll be in contact with you when we do.

Re: Best Track

We were getting good start signals. Only some lanes would return .0001 and others would time just fine. As for the weight, we were using the specified 20# on each end, which is insufficient. My guess is that at least 40# on each end is needed if the 5# per line is used. I think that we can overcome ...

Re: Best Track

We just completed our first space derby. Kid's had fun, but it was very frustrating for us. The Best Track ends slid on the smooth concrete floor, And some of the starting gates did rise enough to hold the rockets. We used The Judge timers and had multiple issues with getting good times with the sys...

Re: Best Track

We have bought 4 of them with the Judge timing systems for our Pack. We'll be using them for the first time at the end of the month. They are correct about the straws that they come with, but the Judge timing system repaces those. Also, we found a fitness store that donated us their overstock old we...

Re: Cubmaster's First Raingutter Regatta

We have a blast with our raingutter. Typically, The Cubmaster and ACM wear a navy cap. All of the officials wear the folded cloth sailor caps and we have someone in our Pack that owns a pirate costume and wears it. We usually run ours in late September/early October as a kick-off even for the year. ...

Re: Raingutter Regatta Boat and Sail Rules

2. Detailed Rules and Race Day Process The rules for the Raingutter Regatta are fairly simple. The boys build boats from standard BSA kits. Please follow the assembly directions on the package and allow the boys to decorate in any manner they choose. The actual race will be divided into rank catego...

Electronic timing

I know...a little high tech because of the style of the race, but with about 150 boys racing, we are looking for a more reliable and easily used system. Has anyone ever heard or seen an electronic system for raingutter?

Re: Raingutter Regatta Boat and Sail Rules

To the best of my knowledge, there are no "official BSA rules" The closest that you get in derbies is what is printed on the instruction paper which many derbies just ignore anyway. Our Pack is in it's 3rd year of Raingutter. Year one went great. Year two, was when competition crept in wit...

Re: Pit Stop Stadium

This is what we use. It is cut out of rigid packing foam and fits on a 8' long table. The photo shows two, one right behind the other. We have 4 of them that stack neatly on top of our two PWD storage cases.

Hmmm...now that you've mentioned kit numbers I just realized that technically EVERYONE'S car is illegal this year by those rules. The new kit is #17006

Wheel Diameters

We have had several issues in the past with our Council PWD race DQing cars based on wheel calipering. This has happened even to cars without sanded wheels and was not even in the rules for it until this year. We've had a couple of boys in near tears as they had to tear their car apart to buy new wh...
