Re: Pinewood Derby Podcast

A suggestion for your podcasts is to throw out some industry news. Things like Best Track's new servo start gate, Stuart Ferguson looking to retire and selling Micro Wizard and Derby Magic's new drag racing system are some recent events. Maybe even new versions of some popular race software being re...

Derby Magic Drag Racing Setup

Derby Magic recently announced that they have a new drag racing system. It includes a light tree, start gate (with a solenoid on each lane) and their race management software. It looks interesting. https://derbymagic.com/drag-racer/ The solenoids can act independently, so each racer has control over...

Re: Raspberry Pi based Instant Replay system

What I have going now as a prototype that I need to test is a box that goes between the gate and the computer. When the box senses that finish line data has been sent to the computer, it triggers my code, using the longest finish time to go back to the proper moment and show the replay. It works wh...

Re: Raspberry Pi based Instant Replay system

Could you use a USB webcam with this instead of the PiCamera? With 4 USB ports on the RPi, maybe supporting multiple camera angles would not be too hard to integrate. Have you thought about an external trigger sensor? Not everyone will want to tap into their timer's electronics, especially if it is ...

Simplified Bandsaw Jig

While my other jig has been handy, I did also make up this simpler jig, which is easier to work with. It has been used at many workshops and has proved to be useful. I certainly don't want anyone leaving a workshop with a finger in a baggie with ice. So, I do require that one of my jigs be use...

Pinewood Derby Podcast

I found this podcast that I found very interesting and informative regarding building derby cars. He does talk a bit about league racing (which is not the focus of this forum, of course) but his current podcasts are concentrating on youth racing. These can certainly help novice racers. Inclined Kine...

Re: Computer prompted start

Randy, whose solenoid do you have on your personal track and whose solenoid did Ford have on their track? I've used the ESS solenoid gate on my track and for the Ford and Subaru races that I have helped run. It's been a dependable unit. Easy to mount to a Best Track, not so easy to a Micro Wizard t...

Re: Computer prompted start

I'm researching starters and was curious if people also like having the capability of computer prompted starts? Personally, I prefer to control the pace of the race from the start gate, not from the computer. I run the race management software in hands-free mode, kick it off and then walk away from...

Re: Micro Wizard / Derby Wizard

I know that I'll be sad to see you go. You were very instrumental in me getting my race software business going. I hope that you are able to find a suitable buyer. Your timers and tracks have helped countless groups put on successful races and your customer support has been top notch.

Best Track Remote Start Gate

I notice that Best Track now has their own remote start gate, operated via a servo. Looks interesting. Hopefully, it is strong enough to open up an 8 lane start gate loaded up with cars.

Re: Moving a racer after heats have been run

There currently isn't a way to move a racer once racing has started. It is something that I intend to investigate in the off season, to see just how complex that would be. If scoring by times, it may be doable. However, scoring by points is based on who the racer is going head-to-head against, so m...
