Re: Hobby Lathes

I know the Taig is probably better quality but for the money you can't beat a Homier Speedway http://www.homier.com/detail.asp?SessionKey=INx3Elj%2ftyc3MarPL0RzfRuOMUS26%2fDdZZc31HswGAhAvBUI4Dm%2fqupGZ%2fwUkFyade1Rag%2bEyh6A&dpt=&cat=&sku=03911 At $299 brand new it is worth every penny. ...

Re: Groovy Jigs

Initially, we looked at Michael L's data for spin times with NyOil and grooves (higher spin times assumed to be better). (Summary: 35.85 sec - BSA Axle Polished 43.12 sec - BSA Axle Polished with single groove 44.75 sec - BSA Axle Polished with multi-groove However, I believe MaxV posted some race ...

Re: Fine grit paper

As stated by others try Wal Mart, local auto parts store, or even a local body shop will probably have a couple sheets they would be willing to sell. But problem I found was most don't have anything higher than 2000. Try Sparkle Automotive at http://www.sparkleauto.com/meguiars/auto/professional_uni...

Re: Weight Distribution

Randy, I'd bet money (not a lot, mind you!) that Barga has built such a car! Having raced against the Barga family, I know firsthand how innovative they are! 2k10h Thanks for the compliment 2k10h! Actually I have not personally built one since every race we have ever been involved with has rules pr...

Re: Weight Distribution

Drill large hole from back of block to just behind front wheels. Find large ball bearing smaller than diameter of hole. Make a divot on bottom side of hole at back of car. Put large ball into hole and close up end of block. When staging car ball is rolled to back of car and sets in divot, effectivel...

Meguiars UniGrit papers up to 3000 grit at Sparkle Auto http://www.sparkleauto.com/meguiars/auto/professional_unigrit.html I bought some the other year. If you call them they will sell individual sheets so you don't have to buy 25 pack. I bought a couple sheets of 2500 and 3000 3 years ago. Cut it i...

I would also like to see if a third party could duplicate his results. Then, I'd be a believer. You seem like a third party to me! Part of the reason Max-V and myself have done extensive testing is to find what is best for ourselves. And then we publish results so others can see what is available. ...

Re: BAS mold #'s

If you are going to get a lathe and spend $400 get a Taig. I agree - the one pictured in my post above is a Taig from about 5 years ago. I continues to work well. I have a more expensive lathe as well, but I find the Taig much more useful. You can find them at: http://www.taigtools.com/ Here is ano...

Re: BAS mold #'s

If you are going to get a lathe and spend $400 get a Taig. I do not have one but I have done research so when I am ready to get one. Of all the mini-lathes I have looked at (mostly harbor freight and Enco) none have listed the working accuracy. Taig lists theirs right in the specs. They guarantee .0...

That's a pretty cool setup. And to think all I did was clamp a pro hub tool in a vise and mount the dial indicator magnetic base on the anvil part of the vise.

And those of us that do not have the time definitely appreciate it, because it gives us a starting point. Thanks!

Lot's of people will say 2's and even more will say 5's but we have had the most success with 12's.

Re: What Car(s) are you going to build next season?

Don't know much about strengthening thin wood but I do have a suggestion on lessening impact of stop section. If your track is like most where the cars stop by sliding on the center rail do this. We have been putting anti-skid tread tape on the bottom of our cars for a couple years. Sometimes they s...

Re: Finally!!!!

Great job WW!! Like I told you before, the red one is our favorite! I bet it will make one fast WIRL car! Warp Speed Inc. It will be there in June, although I doubt it will be competetive with your stuff. The wheels are fairly stock, hubs not coned and diameter only sanded round on my drill press n...
