What weird car this year?

So last year I was the FFOS presenter for our district and I think I attended about 4 PWD's before district. I built a cool bathtub to race against the boys that wanted to race (it looks fast but is really chalenged when it comes aerodynamics and wheel prep, it lost every race) I'm kinda known for h...

Re: Weight of materials

So I went and got me a runout gauge. I'm going to get it mounted to the wheel shaver tonight. I plan to mount it at a right angle to the shaving blade. Now I should be able to get an accurate reading on the wheels. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00940777000P?vName=Tools&cName=Measuring...

Re: Questions of a Webelo

Thanks, I've learned a little tonight. I didn't think about the energy required to spin up all the extra wheels. My initial thought was that If it were me I'd shoot for three wheels. As an engineer I'm always looking at critical points of failure and with 6 or 8 wheels having to be equally round, al...

Re: Epoxy Vs Glue and Putty

So I guess I'm old school with the bondo body filler to fill my holes? I grew up in a pattern shop. Spent my summers sweeping floors and running leather fillets with elmers wood glue. Many a summer was spent patching and fixing abused patterns and molds in my uncles pattern shop. My bathtub... well ...

Re: Optimal COG distance below axle plane?

So I've read this whole thread. I learned that with a 32 foot track a "normalized COG" to introduce a new term as opposed to a Lower COG will still come out ahead. However on a track longer than 40' the Lower COG will pull ahead. So, what is one to do when the Track that you race on in Pac...

Questions of a Webelo

So tonight I showed one of Stans Power Points to my Webelos... You know the one with the fastest lane.... Well half way through the power point I believed some of them got most of it. Well I had one really smart boy that just wanted to question everything and then he came up with a question that stu...

Re: New Wheels Made by Revell?

We've searched the local Michaels and Hobby Lobbies in our area and none of the wheels or kits are on the shelves. Now this is not saying that they won't be....In my looking I suddenly realized why kids are not building models these days... PRICE.... 20 dollars for a Revel Model car that I bought an...

Re: Weight of materials

I re-ran the wheels through the shaver, sorry I forgot to report that. I made 1 change to the shaver tool yesterday. I replaced the stock axle post with a #41 drill bit. This bit fits snuggly in the BSA wheel hub. I simply drilled the bit into the block of wood until there was no cutting portion of ...

Re: Weight of materials

I went this afternoon to a hardware store and found some long shafted drill bits that I can replace the nail in my wheel shaver with. Right now we are at about a .0015 run out using the provided axle on the new wheel. I think with using the shaft portion of a #41 drill bit I will get the last .0014...

Re: Weight of materials

Last year in District my Sons car raced the eventual district winner no less than 4 times. 3 times in double elimination of which 2 were a dead tie to the .0000. My son did not line the car up well on the third pass and dropped to the Looser Bracket eventually taking 4th in Bears District. He raced ...
