Re: In Memoriam: Dr. John D. Jobe

I read all his papers. It was a contributor to helping my son race in scouts. In addition, the information helped me to get where I was when I raced these little wooden cars. It is amazing how far we have come over the years by sharing information. The Doctor sure put some insight into the sport. Th...

Harrisburg, PA District Race

I asked the Scout District Office if they needed help for the District Race in Harrisburg, PA. They said Yes and the race was yesterday. They use an awesome new 6 lane 48" Best Track that was raised. The track was perfect. There is money around this area and the quality of some of the cars was ...

Re: BSA PWD Wheel Comparison Chart

Since I posted the chart, there definitely is a new lot of wheels in circulation from BSA and they are not of good quality. Everybody knows about wheel wiggle. Well, in general many of the wheels from the new lot "oscillate" and have to be discarded. Wiggle is "back and forth" wh...

BSA PWD Wheel Comparison Chart

This summary is for BSA Wheels purchased last year up to early December. Late December I purchased 100 wheel/axle kits from internet Scout Shop and all were bad. Might have gotten a pro racer's cast off. Hard to say. The lot code never changes. The clean-up sizes should be pretty close as I cut lots...

BSA Wheels from Latest Lot

Overall the wheel kits are good from the latest lots I purchased. It appears that BSA does not change the lot number on the tubes anymore. Kind of hard to figure out what you are purchasing of you go to the Scout Shop. I order through the website.

Polishing Axles with High Speed Dremels

Much discussion over the years about polishing axles. Over the years, I have used Dremels to polish the axles, after cutting on a lathe. The Dremels rotate at over 30,000 RPM. The units are pretty safe for a Scout to use with proper training. I would guess the biggest safety issue would be loose clo...

Plan for Managing Your Pack's Race Schedule!

I find the area of setting up a fair race for all the cub scout packs very interesting. When I had a track and was a pack leader, I was spoiled by Randy's Software. I recently had a dad come to me and show me the results of his son's car. The overall results for the Scout's car were influenced by th...

Aftermarket Wheel & Axle Kits

We all know that the scouts should be preparing their wheels and axles. I think it is pretty straight forward when compared to getting the car alignment sweet-spot! At times, I see single mothers and grand parents trying to help and they do not have the tools and/or know-how to make a car. In additi...

Re: Poor Quality Wheels from Latest BSA Lot

Sorry for the late reply. I got a nasty case of covid and it took me about a month to come back. My thought is hat Lot #0618 was used for two production runs of wheels but I could be wrong. The latter ones were just pathetic. I am just past 500 sold sets for this year. I was fortunate to purchase th...

Re: AWANA Grand Prix 2022

OMG, you have some work in that beauty! I cannot wait to see the final outcome! Awesome work! There is a machinist in PA who used to race pros, who was really good at making awesome hot rods. He got frustrated and quit after some of the new guys came in and set new standards. However, nobody could m...
