Re: Need electronics for a wood track-I have one for you~

I have a 3 lane elapsed time Fast Track from Micro Wizard that came off a wood track for sale. I was just about to post it when I saw this. $200 plus shipping and its yours. I believe software can be downloaded from Microwizard.com. My oldest just got Eagle and youngest bridged last year. Ten year c...

Re: 4 wheels do not touch the ground

I have run the inspection desk at previous races and have experienced this too. Our work around was to let the Cub run the car under the premise that thet would NOT go to district or place in the Pack if they did well. We felt that all the kids who had this error (or others) had cars that would prob...

Re: Do Rules Help?@Slipperyfrog

Slipperyfrog, Does your son have an advantage? Yes. Is it unfair? No. IMHO, if your son is spending time in the shop with you and being supervised, then all is good!~ If he is doing the work, using the tools, and getting the results, why would he be called a cheater? I am willing to bet that much fo...

Re: Do Rules Help?

Would you do your best without the rules? If next year they said there were no rules would you all of a sudden start making the car for your son? Do the rules change behavior? Rules give us parameters in which to operate. A persons ethics dictate their actions. If the intent of the race were to see...

Re: Using a maple block

I spoke to a Dad that came from a Pack that simply "branded" every kit block on the bottom. If there was no mark on race day, you did not race. That may limit design, but it kept everybody in the same pieces of wood.

Re: Do Rules Help?

Yes, rules do help, especially at the Pack level. Our Pack patterns our rules after the District guidelines. Yes, there are clearly dad built and professional cars. If an infraction is caught at the Pack level, we let the boy race, knowing they will not advance if they place. I am on year 8 the 10 ye...

Re: rail rider question - no dominant front wheel

Congratulations SpartanGa and SpartanGa Jr! My Tiger and I are prepping for District as well, we have read all the threads on RR and the boss says he wants to go for it. We are four down, and I understand what to do in that case (great posts) but I was wondering one more thing... Does it make sense ...

Re: Best way to rotate axles?

My son and I just took an older pair of needle nose pliers and notched the inside of the jaws with the Dremel. We used a test car to make sure the notches fit the axle head properly .While we had the Dremel out, deburred any rough spots on the pliers and sprayed them to match this years car. Next ye...

Re: Low tech wheel mod question

The socket "lathe" is brilliant! Was wondering if I could take a 1/2" piece of 1" pipe and split it , tack weld each half to needle nose vise grips and have an "adjustable" jig. Use strips of velcro backed paper and do effectively the same thing you are doing. Might spe...

Take a close look at your Pack and District rules. Many races expressly forbid the use of any previously used components. If there were any question, imagine how your scout would have to answer...

I appreciate the response. :bigups: I had the first wiki book attachment you listed, but had not seen the second one~ I will re read them both and try to break it down for my son. If he wants to proceed we will. I am drawing a parallel between big block chevy's and Pine cars. Speed costs, ( in our c...

Low tech wheel mod question

All, My Tiger did very well this year taking first in speed over all three Tiger dens. We were not quite sure how it was going to go as we came from a much smaller pack (older son bridged out). He is going to district and has asked if we can gain speed. We will set it to Rail Ride and a few other tw...

Re: Anyone Else Having Trouble With The New Axles?

New here, but wanted to add my two cents worth~
I bought three sets of the "new" wheels this year and the very first axle I tried to bevel in the press popped the head off. Fortunately I had several of the older axles to use.
