Re: Our homemade track... videos of just completed track

I am discouraging this idea... -T Good idea, or next thing you know there will be HIRL discussions in the Racing League forum. This is a great track, Teeeman, congratulations on the fine work! Question about your starting mechanism: Is it wood rubbing wood when you slide the little door open and le...

Re: Rules Issue...Use slots or allow drilled axle holes?

In Cory's rules, it does, or did allow holes to be drilled if the alignment was off. When our rules were created, some of the BSA kits had pretty bad slots -- I measured plenty that were more than 1/8" off from square. The nearest Scout store is in Bethesda, MD, which is a 30-45 minute drive f...

Re: Track Design and Aerodynamic Lift?

While you're testing, be sure you test for both orientations of the car. That is, front wheels nearer the bumper (as shown on the box as I recall) and rear wheels nearer the bumper (where the COG can be further back and the front real light. You don't need to lift the car, just the front end and no...

Re: Ppngen question

Bravo11, is it possible that you are blocking popups for Stan's site?

It looks like the first window slips past the blocker, but any windows after that get trapped.

I believe you can change the setting for Stan's site under Tools --> Pop-up Blocker.

Re: Ppngen question

Bravo11, I believe that I can reproduce the problem on my IE 7 here at work. This is when asking for "Chart and Scoring Grid": In Firefox, I get the chart and the scoring grid for up to 17 cars, but for 18 I get the chart in one tab and a scoresheet in another tab. In IE 7, I get the chart...

Re: Ppngen question

1. Are you choosing "Chart and Scoring Grid" or "Chart, Separate Scoring Grid"?

2. Could you click the PPNGEN DIAGNOSTIC OUTPUTS check box on the left half of of the screen, and then repeat? After you're done, please copy/paste that output into your next reply.

Thanks.

Re: Six Lanes vs Three Lanes

The number of heats doesn’t change. Adding tracks allows you to run the same number of competitors, more often, in the same time (plus additional overhead). So, adding lanes lets you give competitors more “runs for their money”. My experience has led me to a different paradigm. With kid-staging, I ...

Re: Six Lanes vs Three Lanes

Anyone with 6-lane experience out there? How long does it take you to run a single race? I guess there aren't many six-lane tracks out there. Well, in the absence of informed opinions, I will go with my extrapolated opinion which is that is running 1 heat per minute is next to impossible with a 6 c...

Re: Six Lanes vs Three Lanes

Total heats = 138 Can this be run in a 2 hour Pack meeting? My only experience is with 3-lane and 4-lane tracks, but IMO this is very aggressive on a 6-lane track with kid-staging. Doing the arithmetic... 2 hours = 60 * 60 * 2 seconds = 7200 seconds 7200 seconds / 138 heats = 52 seconds per heat Wh...

Re: Put My Foot in it last night

My hope was to eliminate individual den racing and use first race to sort all cars with second round run with top finishers for second sort. Pulling den standings from overall sort for awarding den trophies. That would reduce 10 races, 2 for each den, 2 for championship, down to 2 or 3 races that c...

Re: Put My Foot in it last night

The race on three lanes has each car running twice in each lane. First round is for all boys in den, top seven advance to second round at den level, top four in each den advance to championship race. Awards are given to top 4 finishers at den and championship level. Championship cars see total of 1...

Re: Put My Foot in it last night

Our Pack race is about 60 cars on a three lane track, start at 7:00 finish at 1:00. We run about 45 minutes for each den and for the grand championship race with 16 boys racing. Six lanes will allow us to run the race at our pack meeting next year in about 2 hours I hope. We will likely put all boy...

Re: Attendace Requirement for Race Day Questions....

I believe the allowance I was willing to make that others were not was based on the fact that his activity was of a religious nature and a rather important event, and not just an elective sleepover, campout, ball game, etc. for which I would expect the boy to prioritize and choose. We used a simila...

Re: We're going to try a new system for Districts this year

His loses would be by smaller margins than his loses would have been without speed matching. This is a very good point. My experience is that a single victory, no matter how close or who it's against, tends to outweigh three or four losses in the mind of an 8-year old. Likewise, close losses are vi...

Re: We're going to try a new system for Districts this year

While it is not possible for everyone to do average or better than average, it is certainly possible for them to FEEL that way. If your scheduling system allows a car to finish 1st or 2nd in every race, then is it not also true that a car could finish last or next-to-last in every race? I'm not a p...
