For those who polish wheel bores . . .

Related Question: We previously did not "polish" bores. We would lightly burnish each bore with a drill bit, then hit the bores by spinning a pipe cleaner covered with graphite for 15-20 seconds per wheel. Question is: If we polish the bore using micro gloss or some similar product, should...

Weight Before Assembly/Paint

Howdy Folks: I lost my notes from when my oldest came through Cub Scouts. We usually would carve the body, then weigh the unpainted body along with everything we were placing on the car - lead wieghts, Lego guys, wheels, and nails, to top up to a specific weight short of 5 ozs. I can't remember the ...

Re: Second place by an average of .0015 seconds.

In our Pack race last year the difference between 1st and 2nd place was 0.009 ! Too close for my eyes.

Re: Help with last minute paint/hub contact area problem.

In his final race as a Cub, my son won our pack race. He shaved .02 off of last years average time, and the crazy glue on the front axle hub held up! As a funny aside, I was deluged after the race by 6-7 Pack parents for our "secret". It amused me because we've already been helping out oth...

Re: Help with last minute paint/hub contact area problem.

If you can't get it smooth enough before inserting the axles. Try some clear 3-M vinyl tape. Franklin - thanks for responding. Do you think the tape could be considered a hub of some sort? This years' car is really trying both of us. When my son was pulling out a front wheel to align it last night ...

Re: Help with last minute paint/hub contact area problem.

Kayjon: Thanks for your help. You were right that even though the Krylon can says "dries in 1 hour", and we were working on the car 12 hours after the last application, the paint was not dried. :( When I went back to it this morning, it took to sanding much better the gummyness was gone. S...

Help with last minute paint/hub contact area problem.

I'd be happy to hear thoughts on how to solve this (almost last minute) snafu. Our race is this Saturday. My son's car is painted with Krylon/Krylon clear coat. After finishing with dry slide decals/clear coat, we pulled out the nails we had in place to keep paint out during the finishing process (w...

Re: Opinions on a new track kit

I think people would be interested, but as with all products it's all about pricing. There are many free plans available on the internet. What you would be selling is the convenience of an all in one package. Once the instructions are in print, that's the only one-time start up cost. The value to th...

Re: eBay car. Would YOU Stomp it or let it Pass?

Stomp! I think letting the child race opens up a can of worms. If your race is an elimination race, then everyone will see the car progress through the race [assuming it's a fast car] but not win a trophy. Then the rumors of cheating make the rounds through the parents and then scouts and you’ve tra...

Re: New Graphite Comparisons

For those of you using PW Extreme's graphite or other "new" graphite blends:

Have you changed the way you "break in" or apply the graphite compared to Hobelube?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

Re: How much time does it honestly take to build a PWD car..

The past two years, our Pack has run a sibling race. I’ve built 2 cars for this race, and spent about an hour on each of them all told, maybe 70 minutes tops. Most of the time is spent in 5-10 minute increments after I'm already set up with my son to work on his car. What amazes me from our track ti...

Re: Body Skins

We did the skin as a wrap around for a sibling car this year and I thought they were a pain the @$$ to use. That said, after I pressed out all of the wrinkles, the effect is pretty cool. The wraps are essentailly large wet slide decals to cover the entire car. All of the above info is good, but the ...

Re: New Graphite Comparisons

For now I am cautiously optimistic but Stephen is convinced that he has a trophy in a bottle with the PE Extreme. We'll see. Did you guys have your race yet? How did your PW Extreme lube times hold up on a full track? Were you able to compare these times to your past performances on the same track?...

Re: Pro-Body Tool From Maximum Velocity

For my money, this is the best pro tool you can buy. Once your axles are in straight, everything else falls quickly into place. If you are looking for a magic bullet, worst to first, take a look at this tool. Building two cars for my Scout's sibling for the sibling race, and using this tool, I knock...
