Re: Nitro Dan's Family 2013 Cars
good looking cars. I especially like your son's Einstein car. Very creative.
I always appreciate out of the box approaches. You must be doing something right if they have to rewrite the rules after you race.

Re: 2013 awana cars
Had our race tonight. 21 cars, my boys finished first and second with the green one taking top honors.
No placing in the design category however. pretty good night. Hopefully my boys have been encouraged to work hard on next years cars.

Re: 2013 awana cars
After paint and decals.
We printed designs onto shipping labels, cut them out and stuck them on.
Ran out of time tonight, gotta do weight and alignment tomorrow night.
The race is on Wednesday night.

Re: Cutting your own pine blocks?
When not restricted by rules that specify original kit block only, I use 3/8" basswood exclusively for my "wafer cars".
It is very light, plenty strong, easy to drill and sand and finishes nicely. It also is what I use for fender material on my full bodied cars.

2013 awana cars
I had my boys do nearly all the work themselves this year, even using the scroll saw.
I think they have done pretty well so far.

rpcarpe wrote:Great Car... how many hours?
hmmm... hard to say since I worked on it intermittently for a couple weeks. probably 15-20 hrs if I were to guess.
I could do it faster and probably better now. It took a while to think through how I was going to do it so I sat and stared at it a lot.

Re: couple of new ones
way late reply on my part, but be sure to post pics of your ar with a tubular front end when you build it.
I'm sure we would all like to see it.

Re: Thanks for the feedback.
From the reply post pic. I saw, it was fuzzy, but it looked like there were several ore cubes than 22 packed in around the rear axle. I may be wrong on this, but I thought I saw about 4-6 more cubes in your pic. Scrollsawer. Actually there are just 22 cubes and the rest is tungsten putty. sorry for...

Re: Am I the only one who has attempted this weighting appro
I have done the 2 rows of 7 behind the axle before, but I did it by leaving a small shelf of the block and gluing the weights onto it. http://i53.tinypic.com/20rlo4p.jpg I like your method a little better since it makes for a cleaner looking design and would allow for better COM tuning by gluing on ...

whoda, you always build such nice stuff...a real craftsman.
how many little wooden cars you got sitting around your house now?
you seem to turn them out at a rapid pace.

Re: couple of new ones
Well, I think I messed up a long hard build by finishing with a bad paint job.
I hate paint. My yellow is a little too school bus-ish and there is just too much of it.
Maybe I'll add some sponsor stickers just to break it up a little.

Re: couple of new ones
I appreciate the positive feedback. :D The X1 car is complicated, but probably not as bad as you might think. All I did was clamp the precut fender material to the center block and then drill the holes at the correct angles through it into the center block. Take the fenders off and cut the cen...
