Re: Securing axles on a Cub Mobile

When we built ours I couldn't find U-bolts with a 1/2" ID long enough so I used larger ones (maybe 1" ID) and just offset the holes so they were at an angle to the axle. On another one we made I cut a groove in the bottom of the 2x4 that was 1/2" wide and about 3/8 deep to hold the ax...

Re: Comtech wheels versus soapbox derby wheels

Our District race rules require wheels be no larger than 10." I think soapbox derby wheels are too large. We have had great success with comtech wheels.

Re: Has anyone heard of this lube?

We thought we would give this lube a try on my older son's car this year. We prepared and lubed the axles and wheels as indicated, but were not satisfied with it. When we were rolling the car on a board to align it, it was clear that it did not roll as freely as my younger son's car, which was prepa...

Re: 2011 Awana GP cars

Nice. Is that 1/2 of a plastic easter egg on the red car?

Re: 2011 Cars

I just tried measuring the thrust on mine. I ran a string from a weight on a scale over a pully to the back of the car. When I started the fan it lifted up on the weight and the scale read less. I used a wind tunnel that I built following the example in a MaxV newsletter article on wind tunnel testi...

Re: 2011 Cars

That is pretty light. Mine was about 6.5 oz and might have done better if it was lighter. What type of battery are you using? Is there a kill switch on the back? I wired mine just like the MaxV article with the capacitors. It provides an initial burst then tapers off quickly and it was nice that it ...

Re: 2011 Cars

Nice work. They are similar to our cars this year. What kind of fan is that and what is powering it? Good luck at the derby. Let us know how they do.

Re: Our 2011 cars

The time for that run was 1.7612 sec. I got lucky and survived two runs without any damage.

Re: Our 2011 cars

The race went very well. My 3rd grader was fastest in the pack and my kindergartener was 3rd.
The Outlaw car was a big hit. The only prboblem was stopping it at the end.

Our 2011 cars

Tonight is our Pack’s Derby. Here are our cars for this year. This year we are trying a rail rider for the first time on my 3rd grader’s car, the silver one. Information from this board has been very helpful in setting this up. It is about 5/16” thick before paint and uses ¼” tungsten cubes for weig...

Re: wheel balance

I really like the design of the car. I don't have an answer on the wheel balance question, but I would imagine that the lighter the wheel is the less ill effect an out of balance condition would have. Just a guess though.
What kind of wheels are those on the blue car in the background?

Re: Has anyone heard of this lube?

Now not listed or mentioned was another step that I tried in going faster with it. That process worked and I was able to set a new track record here at home, comparing to graphite, but not to oil. Ya im gonna hold on to that added process for a few weeks. Sporty, Thanks for the review. I ordered so...
