Re: Derby Magic Track

Since no one who frequents this board seems to have any experience with this track, or is willing to post about it, I decided to order the $15 track sample and see for myself. It does appear to be made of a durable material, I took it to our workshop and let some of the boys try it out by jumping up...

Front of Car Tilted Up - Effect on Performance?

We had a situation at this year's race which I don't think I've run across before and I was wondering what the effect on a car's performance would likely be with this setup. One of our 2nd graders decided to attach the wheels to his car by himself, in the process splitting the wood and rendering the...

Re: New Wheels Made by Revell?

Stopped by a Michael's store in Winston-Salem, NC yesterday and they had a pretty good display of Derby supplies from Revell at the end of the aisle in the children's crafts section of the store. Wheel sets, all colors, and all looked to be the new wheels. But also pre-cut kits, axle polishing kits,...

Re: Derby Magic Track

Looking over their website it looks like they have addressed the main concerns raised earlier about their track design. I think that is a good sign they are serious about selling a quality product. The price is certainly attractive. I see they also offer a 26 to 44 foot one lane test track that come...

Re: Race Rerun

I think most will rerun a heat when a car leaves its lane, with the car declared the loser if it jumps the lane again. I have heard of some who DQ cars which do this however. Another time a heat is rerun would be when there is a problem with the track or timer which would call the race outcome into ...

Re: Low cost / low risk builds for Scoutreach group?

Darin,

Thanks for mentioning how long these shaping sticks last. I still have a few I made 3 or 4? years ago that are still useful. Not quite as good now as when new, but definitely worth the price!

Re: New Product from BestTrack-The Lift Kit

That's a neat idea! Glad to see BestTrack being innovative and coming out with some accessories for their tracks! However, I do wonder if the cost of the risers + stabilizer bars (if needed) make it more cost effective to just build or purchase some low tables to set up a regular track on? You would...

Re: Track leveling

There's a man who brings an aluminum track to the NC state RA race every year which he builds and sells that has leveling screws along the length of the flat sections - lots more than just at the corners like pictured for the BestTrack. During setup they go down the length of the track with a level ...

Re: Low cost / low risk builds for Scoutreach group?

Great idea Bubba! :D Here are some thoughts that I hope will be helpful in planning this all out: Do you have an idea how many kids will be involved? I would want 1 or 2 volunteers with some experience who could help the other volunteers keep things headed right. Otherwise, you may find yourself pul...

Go to the national RA site at http://www.royalambassadors.org and look for the state association link. It should give you information for the state baptist association closest to you. They may have an RA contact person or a contact to the closest local baptist association. Often they will have a RA ...

Re: What is the best lubricant?

I've used the Nyoil II, Krytox 100, and Max-V graphite the past 3 years so FWIW, here are my results: Nyoil - competitive with graphite, but not superior to the better graphite-lubed cars. Do have to watch the application process but overall not as messy as graphite can be. Krytox - slightly faster ...

Re: Greater AL Council Race: Mutiny is brewing...

Teeeman, If this is the last race of the season then I don't see that a post-race teardown should be that big of a problem, but if this will happen with more racing left I would be worried about damaging the cars. I have cracked more than a few trying to remove or reinsert axles over the years so th...

Re: How accurate is "timed" racing?

Track is fairly rough at the joints and requires tweaking before each race to smooth them out. We thought it was set up about as good as it has ever been this year. The start gate doesn't open that smoothly, so it is difficult to open quick on a consistent basis. Nevertheless, reviewing the race dat...

Re: How accurate is "timed" racing?

Hey RMoose? A little help? Let me see if I can answer the questions raised. First off, track is a homemade, wooden 2-lane track, similar to those at the Association and State races. Start gate is manually pulled open, kids stage their own cars with same adult helper operating gate throughout event....

Re: How accurate is "timed" racing?

On the subject of accuracy, here is an interesting situation we had this year in our race. Take a look at the times for the top two finishers in one of our groups: Car A Car B 3.1182 3.0680 3.0294 3.0774 3.0256 3.0885 3.0668 3.0756 3.1443 3.1173 3.0602 3.1140 Average times for Car A were 3.0741 and ...
