Re: Advice for polishing tungsten
I got the 3.5 tungsten canopy from my preferred derby vendor. It looks very nice, but the luster on the tungsten is lacking that head pausing mirror finish. I have been reading up on tungsten and haven't found to many helpful tips, other than soap and water. I think that technique is for tungsten th...

How do packs raise funds for timers?
Yes, I'm so green that need even the green horn buds had sprouted yet. The pack my son attends is a small pack considering the size of other area packs. We use a basic wooden track that I plan to overhaul this year. It needs some serious TLC as it's been passed down through the years. 1) What are re...

Re: best end of block to use as front?
When using the standard pre-cut slots I prefer the longer end on the front. That allows me to place the weight on the car the furthest back as the axle is the furthest back. Then I use an exacto-knife on the front slot to deepen one side of the slot to lift one of the front wheels slightly higher th...

Advice for polishing tungsten
I do not have a tumbler or vibrator to polish tungsten. What I do have is time, patience, Dremel, drill, and muscle. Minus the usual advice of working a grit from low count to a high count, are there better steps in polishing this super hard metal? I'm looking for some solid advice based on hands on...

Re: Open request to manufacturers or resellers for a DVD
I could hack together a collage of YouTube videos, but that's just sad. Plus I'm not sure what copyright/licensing is involved considering I have no explicit rights. (I deal a lot with licenses and copyrights in my line of work, so I tend to stay on the paranoid side.) The Pinewood Physics DVD went ...

Open request to manufacturers or resellers for a DVD
I recently purchased the Pinewood Derby Physics DVD and am very pleased with my purchase. I couldn't be happier. It was made well and I do not feel anything was rushed. I have an open request to PWD tool and equipment manufactures and resellers. Please make a single step by step DVD video on using t...

Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race
If it is so competitive where packs have a problem with parents or scouts purchasing body kits or bodies to win, then this is just sad and disappointing. 1) Drill-in from day one honesty and integrity. Winning by cheating is not really winning, but an empty accomplishment that gains nothing and stea...

A thankyou to DerbyTalk
In mid 2009 my son decided to join Cub Scouting and joined a local pack. Now I was never in scouting myself and had no knowledge of what scouting was or understand how it was all organized. When we joined, it was late school year and the pack was a month away from it's pinewood derby race. The pack ...
