Re: Brush on paint recommendations?

Thanks for the ideas. Yeah, spraying is definitely easier and nicer, and this year and last when he started to paint, I cringe because of all of the sanding, etc, I've done. But yeah, its his car so I'm letting him to at it. We did put some tape down and the stripes came out pretty nice. But yeah, g...

Brush on paint recommendations?

We've just begun to paint and I picked up a pack of those Testors acrylic paint sets in the little glass bottles (although I think these might be meant for plastics). I would normally prefer to spray, but my son doesn't like that and prefers to brush on. The first stripe we put on last nite with the...

Re: Wheel shaver tool within the rules?

FS, yeah, those are the bumps I assume they mean too. Looking at your pic as well as the DebryWorx video on YouTube, it looks as if the bumps remain (assuming the wheels aren't so out of true that you remove so much material). Thanks for taking the time to reply. I think I'll give the shaver a try a...

Wheel shaver tool within the rules?

Our rules (partly) state that: Wheel treatment (hub and tread smoothing and polishing) may not result in substantial removal of mass nor in reducing the wheel width from the original kit wheels. Some of the original "tread marks" on the wheel face must remain intact, i.e. apparent to the i...

Re: Best bang for the buck tools

I do have one additional question on weighting, if I may. I use my wife's post office mail scale to get close but of course, you never know exactly until you get to use the official scale. I know last year they had hot glue guns with coins we could use to bring the cars up to 5 ozs. I was thinking a...

Re: Best bang for the buck tools

Thanks again for the comments everyone. We were able to use the Dewalt scroll saw and the Ridgid oscillating spindle sander to do most of the shaping and sanding last year, so that was great. He's looking forward to using the scroll saw again. I think the HF dial indicator is a good idea. I only hav...

Re: Best bang for the buck tools

Thanks for the replies. These will be used to build just my son's car for the next couple years (and maybe his younger brothers if he decides to enter scouting, too). I have a shop full of power tools, so that's covered. Only thing I can think that I don't have is a dial indicator, but everything el...

Best bang for the buck tools

Hey gang, I've been doing some reading about getting some better speed out of my son's car this year. Last year, our first, I polished the axels and some other minor things and we placed first in the 8 tiger's (by a pretty good margin), but then didn't do so well when we went to the finals. I'd like...

hydroplane mast/sail location

We have our Scout Regatta coming up and I would like to help my son build the hydroplane model from teh BSA kit. We have to use all parts from the kit and the hull has to remain in 1 piece. I have seen recommendations to move the sail back and I'm just wondering how far back is optimal for this type...
