Re: Air Guides.

Pro ruling is not valid here as we don't discuss "pro", but for the fun of it, most pro allow washers and are non issue, unless specifically ruled against aerodynamic improvements. I would rather say washer than bushing, based on Websters dictionary. Bushing, noun 1. Electricity. a lining ...

Re: We need to be efficient

Speedster, I didn't understand your problem. You want to free up a drill press by using a manual jig? If that's the case, I am confident you could find a used drill press for the price of a jig. With your workshop being so successful, ask for a donation to buy more equipment for the workshop, or cha...

Re: We need to be efficient

Speedster, Are you using a bent steering axle? I only use the pro body jig to mark my hole location, then drill on the drill press using the block or bullet. The point is if you bend your steering wheel axle, you will automatically have the 4th wheel lifted. If you are running that many people thru ...

Re: Help moving com back

SAHD13, Food for thought, you can make your main chassis a 1/4" plank, then build the rest of the tank with thin plywood or balsa coated with CA glue and probably end up with a faster vehicle and still have the look you're going for. Or hollow out as much as you can. If you're just going for sh...

Re: Help moving com back

If your car is 3.2oz without any weight, you need to get it as far back as possible. With a chassis weight that high, you will have a hard time getting a decent com. If you are looking for speed, you should try and cut that weight as much as you can, so you can add heavy metal in the rear of the car...

Re: How to secure DFW axle?

Do you inspect your axle heads for damage with magnification after using any hard extraction tool?

Couldn't ever bring myself to use anything hard that might damage them after polishing. Besides the possible damage to axle head our wheel gaps wouldn't allow them to grip on.

Re: How to secure DFW axle?

If you car was subject to mishandling you might get a bent axle, then how would you fix it if it was glued? I am not sure a car with drilled axle holes, needs them glued if the holes and wood are a good match. About 3 years ago we had a car that had one of the fastest runs we ever saw, but would not...

Re: various questions

Since I don't know if there is a center bar or just side dividers I guess I'll just try to make it run straight this time. Why not ask you race organizer what the track configuration is? Do the rules say rail riding is not allowed? This would be a doozey for the books.... Someone should compile a l...

Re: Ideas towards Cub-centric wheel improvement...

Without going into the machining calculations........Feel free to take a look at Machinery Handbook, probably available at the local library. I think your going to want to turn the wheel between 400/600 RPM for single point turning(Like on a lathe). Of course there are many factors, like cutter shap...

Vitamin K, I think you're Correct. On the Extended wheelbase, some guy named Sporty claims it's easier to tune an extended wheelbase car. I think all the winning cars in the Mid America race were probably extended wheelbase if allowed. Speedster, FWIW, our Mid America (not winners but top 12) cars ...

Back in the early days when we used to sort boxes, I used the opportunity to explain a bell curve to my son. We stacked them up showing the distribution. I will have to see if I can find a picture.

Re: Mold numbers and used/last year's wheels

I've got about 4 sets of stock BSA wheels here. Two extra tubes I bought at the BSA store, and the sets that came with the block kit at the den meeting. So, from what Ive read in the forum here, its best to try to match wheels with the same mold number inside. My questions. What happens if I do not...

That's exactly what you're doing going down the homemade path, you just don't realize it yet.

It doesn't have to be ball bearings(all though preferable in my opinion) - old lathes used bronze bearings/bushings - but they will wear faster.

Re: Mass-Producing Lead Weights for Scout Use?

My question is directed more at the "tungsten is effectively free" advocates who think it is a simple matter to remove/swap expensive tungsten weights without ruining the design of a car. Personally, I'll keep using tungsten when I need its density to make my design work. (I've spent at l...

Re: Ideas towards Cub-centric wheel improvement...

Yes, but controlling the axial movement is the tough part. Maybe it could be conquered adequately with a press fit bearing or using some sleeve retaining compound, since the cutting forces are not that high. search the terms ER and Spindle or Headstock, those two terms should get you pointed in the ...
