Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...

You know the IR Emitters aren't really needed, especially for testing. You can use a regular incandescent bulb. I have also seen it mentioned that bright white LED's actually emit mo IR than IR LED's do. Thanks for the tips. Where is the line for the start gate switch going in your test set up? It ...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...

Do you have any type of electronics supply store available near you? If so they would probably have a phototransistor and LED that could be made to work. It does take some experimentation - my first attempt was with a matched set from Radio Shack but I was not able to get good results with it (bad ...

Re: Yet another Arduino based track timer...

Thanks for your work on this Indy. I picked up an arduino starter kit a couple months ago just to learn how to make this timer. Wish we had radio shack here still as I am having troubles figuring out what leds to use.

Re: lubrication help

Thanks for the tip. We were just told no oil, have not been given any other rules. Assuming the rest of the area rules apply with this exception as there were no restrictions on lubes for that race. Race is this weekend so I don't think that will get to me.

lubrication help

My son finished 2nd in the area race and he gets to go to an inter-area race where they race as a team against 3 other areas. The format is head to head so he will have to race 30 times total. We have been told they are not allowed to use oil as they are worried about it staining the track. We used ...

Re: Ran our pack race today

If I can locate my wife's camera I will post some pictures.

My son came in second in the district race on the weekend btw. He should have won but there were some complications. I was quite proud of him for taking it as well as he did. The winner was the second place car from our pack.

Re: Ran our pack race today

Thanks, this was the first time the current leaders have run a kub kar race. I used a lot of tips of this site to "do my best" to make the race run smoothly and quickly. The parking lot really helped a lot and had a parent getting the on deck cars ready. I ran the beaver buggy race with th...

Ran our pack race today

We ran our pack race today using the GPRM software and the judge timer. It was a huge hit and everyone loved the software and the kids had a blast no issues keeping them interested. Thank goodness we did not have to eyeball the winner as some of the heats were really close. It took us 55 minutes to ...

Re: Can you use GPRM to rank dens?

Thanks for the trophy tip.

So I need to track by time in order to figure out the den/sixes ranking? But I need to switch to points for the over-all rankings?

Does 69 minutes seem accurate time estimate for PPN on a 3 lane track based on 46 races using GPRM?

Re: Can you use GPRM to rank dens?

Great thanks that is exactly what I was wanting to know. We have used a simple elimination format in the past which only really tells us the winner. Also some of the cubs/beavers have lost interest very early on once eliminated. I don't want the racers to only race within their sub group only or tha...

Can you use GPRM to rank dens?

In charge of organizing our packs pinewood race this year. All new leaders this year for our cub pack so no experience to fall back on. After much reading on this forum I was going to purchase the GPRM software to run our race this year. We don't have a timer as of yet, hopeful that I can convince t...
