Re: seriously I am starting to feel my brain fry

Might I suggest you purchase Troy Thornes new book, Building The Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR. It is excellent. It shows the different angles of bend in axles when building a rail rider. You don't need any special tools. The tools simply make the job a bit easier. You can bend the DFW nail with a scr...

Re: seriously I am starting to feel my brain fry

Ding ding ding! right on the first try. I don't know how I had found that particular page other than by following a link and then another link and so on, but the video definitely helped me visualize what so many have been saying on here. and then I exited out, do not have my history saved and poof -...

Re: seriously I am starting to feel my brain fry

Hey Joedirt, I hear you. Question: why no cant on the rear axels? Will they not fit with your rendered design? Neg canted rears is not required for rail riding but it's nice. For rail riding, you also don't need to raise a front wheel but you also can. The big thing with the DFW is to tune it so yo...

Re: pinecar axles and what to look for on alignment night

Thanks guys, as much as I like the look of those rims I think I am going to have to sacrifice looks for speed on this one area. however, photos will include the pinecar rims probably chromed up :)

Re: future floor finish, waxing and other 'shiny'

after having let the clear coat set I added a few more coats of future floor wax and I must say that my original assessment is indeed correct - future is the way to go and so far there has not been any negative effects of future floor wax on top of the clear coat

seriously I am starting to feel my brain fry

ok this is crazy and is some what counter to what I have mentioned in another post but since I have three cars to play with I can try a few different things. I am thinking about making one or more of the cars a rail rider. I have read numerous links to rail riding and stan popes website and I thinki...

Re: in progress pics of my son and his friend's car

What technique do you use to paint? I am seduced by the idea of an airbrush, but have yet to bite the bullet on the cost (just spray paint, or craft acrylics that come in small plastic bottles...think Hobby Lobby). Scrollsawer Our typical process is as follows: sand to 400 grit, prime with krylon a...

Can you guess who they are supposed to be? If not I may need to do some more work. http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj549/mrjacmo/lmcqangleview_zpsdc25d099.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj549/mrjacmo/lmcqangleview_zpsdc25d099.jpg http://s1267.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrjacmo/media/lmcq...

pinecar axles and what to look for on alignment night

Hello all, I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on the pinecar brand axles that go across the entire width of the pine block and the wheels for the outlaw class. These wheels feel especially tight on the axle I am not doing a rail rider, toe in or out, neg/[junk] camber, etc. (although I have...

Re: future floor finish, waxing and other 'shiny'

I didn't have good luck with the floor polish. What I found for making the best finish is to put on a couple of coats of clear - I don't mask the areas around the axles - instead I put spare axles in the holes. Then I use 3M sanding papers to get a real smooth finish - making sure to polish the are...

Re: future floor finish, waxing and other 'shiny'

Yet even experimentation is always flawed to some degree. Can you collect times on your car, then pull the axels change the prep to the hub area, replace the axels, retune and run again and assume that any change in time is due sole to your prep? What about subltle changes in tuning, axel insertion...

Re: future floor finish, waxing and other 'shiny'

So do you see an improvement in finish by adding future on top of several coats of clear? I am always pretty happy with my finish after clear coat but typically then polish with scratch x then a few coats of turtle wax. Not sure if this really improves the finish but makes the body slicker for any ...
