Re: Two Tone Paint Jobs

There is some real good info in this post. Something we do is always paint the lighter color first. It is much easier to paint the second color on top if it is darker. If you go say yellow or orange over black or blue it is almost impossible to have good coverage without 3 or 4 coats. Then you are l...

Outstanding work on this car. You can tell you really enjoy the time spent on the build. I hope you get a chance to share it with a ton of scouts!

Great looking build! I want one. Where did you get the reproduction kit or who makes it?

Meggs Family 2013 Cars

Here is our race line-up for this year. The blue car is my Son's Stock Class car and the yellow car is my Daughter's Sibling Class car.

Re: GCC Pack 242 Pinewood Derby Cars

Great looking bunch of cars! I really like that your pack documents each one. It seems like each year we see some cool unusual cars in our Pack and can't quite remember how they looked the next year when we build our new one. Keep up the good work!

I always lose the toothpick, too. So, I left it out of the build. I planned on painting a square on the face so it would look like it was there, but forgot about it.

Here's just an update on the project. All the pieces base coated in olive drab. Hard to see in the pic, but the tire tread is not painted.

Re: Swiss Army Knife Car

That is an awesome car knife. I wonder how that falls with "no moving parts" rules? I'd just consider those "movable parts" and not an issue provided they requrie a bit of effort to move. Guess you could throw in a locking pin if you absolutely had to. That'd be hilarious to hav...

Re: New Project in the Worx

This is how we tackle tank treads. I rip down strips of pine on the table saw and then cut quarter inch grooves in them on the band saw. After gluing it from front to back we carefully bend it around the outside wheels and under. Place it in a rubber band until dry and then trim it back so it doesn...

Re: PWD Car Displays for under $25

That's a great project and a good description on the build. There is a lot of opportunity for the scouts to be creative and customize it. I have seen a similar plan on-line that runs the car supports 90 degrees out from the back so you can mount it upside down and use the base to display trophies if...

Re: Marking axles: where to place mark

We start all wheels at 12:00. Then after adjustments clean and remark to 12:00 in case for some reason an axle needs to be pulled.

Re: In progress pics of my sons bumblebee

Great looking start. That's going to be a really cool car. I built a yellow car once. It took about 10 coats of paint to cover the sanded spots in the primer. Every new car is a learning experience.

Re: Photos of my kids first PWD cars

Great looking cars. You have it in your blood now, go ahead and get started on next year's cars. ha ha. Your fenders look great, a lot of people use balsa wood to reduce weight. We stick with pine since after all it is the "Pinewood" Derby. Good luck on your future project!
