Re: BSA axle ridges

When you say "aftermarket axles" does this mean you can use .092 stainless steel axles, grooved axles, etc ? Are you racing under rules provided by the Girl Scouts or have you been given rules from a Cub Scout Pack? I'm heavily involved with the Program Director for the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio ...

Re: BSA axle ridges

AaronS, I think I am starting to gravitate more to that way of thinking regarding BSA axles. I used to carefully file the ridges down, but now I just remove the flashing and polish the crimp marks smooth. Some folks on the league forums who race in the "Box Stock" division have suggested this is pr...

Re: Aerodynamics ?

I don't worry about whether the block is square or not. Doesn't matter, because the drill fixture is going to drill perfectly parallel holes regardless. And since the fronts are going to be steering, doesn't matter if they're straight that much, either. Even for a 4 wheel touching car (the single m...

Re: Aerodynamics ?

We don't to the drill/press holes until after the block is cut and weight pockets routed, etc. Basically until all the wood working is done, in case the work warps it. And they WILL warp. So we drill the axle holes (whether using the slots or not) last. :agree: Same here. one of the last things I d...

Re: Aerodynamics ?

Now, the point of the post is "before you cut that block". Our "before you cut that block" emphasis is related to alignment (friction), not aerodynamics. We make sure that the kids press their axle holes before they cut the block, so all the sides of the block are still square. We saw a huge improv...

Re: Aerodynamics ?

IMO, aero isn't the first, or even the second prime factor in a fast car. Friction is. And the 2 things that affect friction the most are alignment and axle/wheel bore prep. Without these, no car will be fast. But a car without a great aero shape or weight placement can still be fast if the friction...

Re: Compairing BSA World Speed times

Along the same lines... Lets say a person has a Best Track and can set it up as a 35' model or a 42' model just by adding the extra section. What sort of elapsed time difference would be expected? I ask because it appears from my limited research that the difference between a 35' model and a 42' mo...

Re: Compairing BSA World Speed times

Thank you guys for taking the time to talk to me, so the car is running a time of 3.036-3.038 is that okay times, I feel. Not knowing the variables as Speedster has said to watch for the fastest times, I just dont have that info as its our first year. I get what hes saying, but does it seems like I...

Re: Compairing BSA World Speed times

The fastest Pro Stock car, a Tiger's car, ran a best time of about 2.92. His average was 2.94. Almost positive there was a sub-3 in Stock as well. My son's car ran a fastest of 3.000-something before slowing up a bit, probably due to the rough handling of the cars. I witnessed several cars that were...

He tried to break the Laws of Physics, Why in the world would any car built for speed be as high as 3/8". There would be no reason for it and definitely reasons for not having it. Fenders? Tungsten putty in the Fenders? What would be wrong or against the rules for that? Oil ? Now that's a problem a...

Re: Bad experience at invitationals

A first suggestion for you to give as a volunteer (if accepted) would be to change the title of the "rules" page to "GUIDELINES" or "SUGGESTIONS". Or better yet throw out the ones they are not going to enforce. Not sure I would have kept pushing after the second "confirmation" of the winner (even t...

Re: So this year's car is finished and Pack results

District was today. Car was disappointing. Ran on what I believe is a 32 foot, 6 lane wood track. VERY nice track. Winning car ran 2.75 on a regular basis. That was the fastest car of the day. A couple others ran 2.76. Ours ran 2.78-2.80. One inexplicable run, it looked like it hit the brakes and sl...

Re: So this year's car is finished and Pack results

Okay, so we worked on the car yesterday. Removed all the wheels. Tossed one axle. Re-prepped the bores. Ran it head to head with last year's car again....and it wasn't as fast. Tweaked and tweaked until we got the new one to just catch the old car at the finish. It was winning by about 1/3-1/2 a car...
