Re: Non-tungsten, non-toxic car

I originally got these from Maximum Velocity but they do not show them anymore. You can get them from Derby Evolution. I should have called them "bars". They measure 1/4" x 1/2" by 1 1/2". They do not reach my rear axle by 1/8". Originally I needed to move the rear axle forward to get what I needed....

Re: Non-tungsten, non-toxic car

I was referring to the line - 6 rolls of pennies would be 250 pennies. I'll try to answer you as best I can at this stage of my education. I'm looking forward to starting another Topic hopefully in June. Rear axle is 1 5/8" from rear of truck. Bottom of board is angled as much as I could to clear th...

Re: Non-tungsten, non-toxic car

I realize it's a typo because the answer is correct. 6 rolls of pennies would be 300 pennies. I know I'm Off Topic again but this is Derbytalk and I have learned so much the past 7 years from Derbytalk. Regarding trucks, I owe a lot to Whoda. My opinion only, pennies are not dense enough and would m...

Re: -|||===[ Check Your Rules ]===|||-

I can think of a couple of good reasons. Your Pack does not have that horrible "4 on the ground" rule but your District does. All racers are given the District rules and notified of that rule. The racers who become eligible for the District, if they choose to go, will need to get the 4th wheel down....

Re: Non-tungsten, non-toxic car

Hi there, DCDAD, Welcome to Derbytalk. I'd like to offer my Penny build. Use the long end for the front and drill a 3/4" hole behind the rear axle slot 1 1/2" deep as close to the bottom of the car that is safe. Drill a second hole as close to the rear axle slot and as close to the bottom 1" deep. C...

Re: .087 axle vs .092 axle

Yep, that's exactly what happens. I just ran the truck down the track with the .087 axle and the speed increased.

Re: Moving a racer after heats have been run

That's very kind Darin and I know you do a lot for all children. Our District's attitude is to instill responsibility in the scout. If they're not in uniform, they don't race. That very seldom happens. Never again do I want to hear, "He HAD to go to basketball practice." OK, that's his choice. No on...

Re: Moving a racer after heats have been run

I'm sorry. I agree, my question was not clear. Our Pack and District requires the scout who owns the car to be in uniform, check the car in and race it. In my 35 years of being involved with the Pinewood Derby I have never heard of someone else handling a scouts car. If this was some special circums...

Nice job. Fenders certainly do make them look like a race car.

Re: Moving a racer after heats have been run

Scott, I apologize for being Off Topic but I am curious. Under what circumstance is a scout allowed to do this?

Re: Weighing Trucks

Not Yet. I'm working with different dfw axles and different drifts. I know I should leave "Well Enough Alone" but curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Weighing Trucks

Maximum Velocity has his 40% off until May 1st. If 3 scales are purchased they will easily weigh a 25 oz truck. They are designed to very easily do this. They even come with batteries. Example: A 20 ounce truck Right Front wheel - 4.775 oz. Right rear wheel - 4.85 oz. Left rear wheel - 10.025 oz. To...

.087 axle vs .092 axle

Newbie here on this topic. Drifting a Class "B" truck with 4.75 ounces of weight on the dfw of a 20 ounce truck. The drift is 1/2" in 5'. 3 wheel rail rider. Axle bent at 1 1/2 degrees Positive camber. Stock BSA wheel. Does dfw axle create the same amount of friction against the rail and the wheel o...
