Re: 8oz outlaw weight placement?

A lot depends on your rules. Can you use oil, wafer wheels, bearing axles, extended wheelbase? If you must use BSA wheels with all the lettering then I would use 1 gram wheels and .092 stainless axles. Hershey bar car. Railriding set up accurately will definitely help. I would keep the front light a...

Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race

I find it very difficult for someone to cheat. First, you need an inspector that has read, and understands, Troy Thorne's book, "Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car." Next, ask the Inspector to describe in detail a 1.8 gram wheel. If he can't, get another Inspector. I doubt someone building cars for ...

Re: Are 2009 wheel bores on an angle

VK, I hope you're right. That's what I'm counting on. We are not allowed to run canted wheels and the wheels seem to always go to the axle head instead of the car body. That is exactly what I want to happen. The wheels will sit "Straight up and Down" per our rules. I'm assuming the 3 "dots" have som...

Are 2009 wheel bores on an angle

Hodges Hobby House shows pictures of the 2009 wheel and says there is a "Bore Squish", Larger in the center and smaller on the ends. I can't tell when I polish the bores. Are the ends exactly the same size? More often then not, when setting up a car to rail ride, the rear wheels will migrate to the ...

Re: Building a car using science Workshop

Whoda, that was actually discussed but out of the question. One of my workshop helpers has left scouts and another is in Florida. Cutting cars, sanding cars, spreading axle holes and raising a slot for a 3 wheeler takes a lot of time and it's a lot of repetitious work. With Hodges cars all I had to d...

Building a car using science Workshop

I posted earlier about a workshop to build cars using science for 100 Girl Scouts. I am connected with the Program Director for The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. The Girl Scouts spent $800.00 for Hodges H 57 wedge cars, tubes of BSA wheels and nails, lead rod and big bottles of graphite. I agreed to ...

Re: Toledo Walleye Pinewood Derby

Thank you, VK. That's a Good idea. I've read those rules. I like them. I wrote to Brian who is in charge of this and offered to help in anyway I can so I'll see if he answers me. If I get to know him maybe he'll let me make some suggestions.

Toledo Walleye Pinewood Derby

The Toledo Walleye, a professional ice Hockey team, is having a Pinewood Derby for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on March 24, 2018. It will be held at the Huntington Center where the Walleye holds their games. They have invited many Scout Councils and The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. That has got t...

Re: Weighted Wheels

Welcome to Derbytalk. Titonka, are you racing in the Cub Scouts? Most Cub Scout racing has fairly restrictive rules, especially when it comes to the wheels. I understand what you had in mind from the ebay item you referred us to. If you're just having fun playing with different things, go for it. If...

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races

How Great your son was able to be there. That surely made it special. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures. I see a lot of STEAM in those cars. Do you have the time for the winning car in each of the races? Just curious. I hope this Activity is published in some Girl Scout National Magazine. I thin...

Re: Weighted Wheels

You want the lightest wheels you can use legally. Scout racing doesn't use a long enough track for a heavy wheel to be an advantage.

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races

Randy, thanks for the pictures and especially the Super Great pictures of the cars in the Dallas race. I Love the Hershey Bar car and the WEDGE shaped cars that dominated the number of cars entered. A Big Thank You to whoever it was that taught these young scouts STEAM. I think the people at Ford ar...

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races

A very big part. The scouts don't realize how fortunate they are to have you. People were in awe watching the computer screen.
