Explaining Camber and Toe

Trying to explain Camber and Toe to a 6 year old racer might present a bit of a challenge. How about we have some Fun with it. What's that saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words". Take a Walgreens Cotton Swab, cut one end off, put a little dishwashing soap on the end and shove it into a wheel....

The price is $130 plus $40 per lane. A 4 lane Transponder is $290.

Re: Hello brand new here.

Yes, just sand it down. Sand far enough that it passes the front and rear of the wheel. As late as it is you might simply choose to do what Darin suggested. Widen the wheel gap on the rear wheel behind the Dominant Front Wheel. Do 4 before 3. Actually, I think 4 is usually done before 1. email Vitam...

Re: Hello brand new here.

I wrote this before I read your additional posts but I decided to submit it anyway. It's here if you need it. I'll back up and read your posts. Not both wheels if the rear wheels are rolling straight. It will always be the rear wheel following the Dominant Front wheel. With the Negative Camber on th...

Re: Hello brand new here.

No, it makes the rear wheel farther away. Yes, I mean the body where the dominate front wheel goes into. Please look on Pages 86 and 87 of your book, Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car. It explains why you do this and has pictures of a car where this is done. I think we might not have talked about r...

Re: The TRANSPONDER now available for ALL tracks

If you are able to set up a track in your house where you control the temperature, I can see where nearly anyone could have a one lane test track. Build a wood track, buy the transponder and hook it up to any T.V. You would have a test track year around.

John, Might we see the price?

Re: Hello brand new here.

It has been said on Derbytalk by very fast racers an Extended wheelbase car is easier to tune. Others on Derbytalk might have opinions. Derby Evolution Pinewood Derby does a good job on wheels. From what I can tell from your very lenient rules, you have 2 choices. 2.4 Gram wheel (NPWDRL BASX) $22.95...

Re: Hello brand new here.

Yes Whoda, you are correct. That was a lousy description on my part. I should have said, "As you turn the nail backwards" - which would have moved the bend forward . Thank you. Yes, they're talking about the wheelbase. Stock size on a BSA block is 4 3/8". You are allowed to extend it. Good to hear y...

Re: Hello brand new here.

Sleestak, You're not Stupid. You just don't know. I want to say one thing and then I'll show you what to do to clarify this for you. This is the EXACT situation I didn't want to happen to you. OK, cut a straight piece of an old wire hanger about 6" long. Take a pair of pliers and at one end measure ...

Re: Hello brand new here.

Actually a rail rider with the Dominant Front Wheel set with Positive cant is less likely to get into trouble then a car with the Dominant Front Wheel set to run straight and set so the wheel is perfectly straight up and down. Setting the wheel with Positive cant is one of the reasons it is Positive...

Re: Starting Council Race

Well, Randy seems to have covered a few things to think about. Allow me to share a race I introduced to our Council many years back. I wanted to have a race between The Boy Scouts and any Business that wanted to participate with the Business paying a fee to participate. It started out "YOU DO IT" !!...

Re: Hello brand new here.

Hi Darin, I know it was you who showed him how to apply graphite and install wheels. Lubing and alignment are two very important parts in building a fast car. I never underestimate anyone. In your case, I REALLY would never underestimate you and I don't know if that would be enough if I ever had to ...
