Re: China Revell wheel vs BSA (usa)

I've never seen China wheels being that light. I do notice the bore on the China wheel tends to be smaller then the bore on the USA wheel. Our Pack leader has a set of China wheels that were nearly perfectly round on Knott's runout gauge although they weighed 2.7 grams. I happen to have 100 sets of ...

Re: New Topic not appearing in most Topics

Howdy , doncrush, Welcome to Derbytalk I'm very interested in what this is all about. Unfortunately, also very ignorant. The only thing I understand are the rules. Let's assume you are entering this race. Exactly what would you do, starting from the very 1st thing, through all the things necessary t...

Re: What is your “real job”?

Hi there, Pinewood Daddy. Welcome back. In case you are not aware, the Girl Scouts are growing very quickly regarding the Pinewood Derby. This is probably due to the Ford Motor Company and Randy Lisano. Something to keep you busy would be to share your knowledge with the Girl Scouts and teach them s...

Re: Adding alcohol to graphite

That's very educational. Thank You. I had never heard of that before. It makes me wonder how a local Girl Scout troop learned of it.

Adding alcohol to graphite

I read in a set of Girl Scout rules that adding alcohol to graphite makes it a "Liquid lubricant" and therefore illegal. I've never heard of doing that before, don't know how I would do it, and don't know any advantage in doing it. Does anyone know why a reason like that would be in scout rules?

Aaron, I wish your Team the very Best.
It will be interesting to see what the Top Eliminator car looks like and what time it turns when racing in the finals.

Re: DFW wheel angle and edge

I think as the degree of cant is increased the toe-in adjustment becomes more sensitive. If I'm understanding Physics correctly, a knife edge on the inside rim of the dfw would still have the same amount of friction, it would simply be moved to a smaller area.

Re: BSA axle ridges

Thanks for the rules. Those are the most lenient rules I have ever read. They seem to follow the Mid America rules.
Would you send us a picture of the winning car? I'm curious to learn if someone takes advantage of all these rules.
I wish you the Best.

Re: BSA axle ridges

When you say "aftermarket axles" does this mean you can use .092 stainless steel axles, grooved axles, etc ? Are you racing under rules provided by the Girl Scouts or have you been given rules from a Cub Scout Pack? I'm heavily involved with the Program Director for the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio a...

Re: Need replacement switch for RaceMaster timer

MicroWizard Timers has an RS Remote Start Switch and 50' of cable for $15.00. My switch closely resembles the one shown by Vitamin K. They state if you are ordering this switch for a previously purchased timer give them a call and tell them exactly what you have. You will need to have MicroWizard bu...

Re: Testing your car on a guided track, when racing on a lane track

CONGRATULATIONS to your team. You all did well.
What was the fastest time of the day? Did you happen to get a picture of the fastest car and did it appear to ride the side? Do most of the cars ride the side of their track or do they bounce back and forth? Do you have a picture of the track?

Re: Practice Track Plans

Each person that builds a track has a specific goal. Randy has found a track that is easy to build and might well be the least expensive a track can be built. The guide strip is 1/4" X 1 1/2" Pine lattice strip which is a stock size. That makes it easy. For many of us on Derbytalk we NEED a "Best" t...
