Re: Our 2019 Cars

The MV axles have a zinc coating on them as do the BSA axles and they are quite shiny. If you take a strip of 3M's 3000 grit Trizact Performance sandpaper, wet sanding only, and hold it against a spinning nail, I agree, out of the light the sanded area looks more shiny. Hold the nail under a light a...

Re: Our 2019 Cars

Great looking cars. Reminds me of the Daytona 500. I have a couple of questions. What is Plast-X and where can it be purchased? The nail? The nail comes with a shiny zinc coating. Can any amount of sanding or polishing actually make the nail more slippery? The wheel bore is polished, then 3 coats of...

Re: Mid America Big Rig track

The Class "B" truck is a straight truck much like a Garbage truck, Dump truck, Flat Bed truck, etc. There is no trailer. It's nothing more then a 19" Pinewood Derby car. Rules require only 8 wheels need to be on the truck and they don't all need to be on the ground. It will be a very simple thing to...

Re: Semi truck with a Lowboy trailer build.

Whoda, The wood deck is very attractive and impressive. I also noticed the detail of the silver wheels to make them look like aluminum Budd wheels. and those chrome steel weights on the bottom of the rear mud flaps so the flaps don't swing up in the wind. Very Impressive. Would you send me 1 quart o...

Re: Mid America Big Rig track

Thank you, Mr Whoda,
My ignorance is showing. I should have checked with Best track, I'll get one ordered. That additional height should make considerable difference in speed.

Re: Mid America Big Rig track

Thank You.
That means a lot of weight can be placed 19 inches behind the pin. The total weight of the truck is limited to 25 ounces. A truck can be built very light. It looks like a lot of testing is in my future.
Always open for suggestions.

Mid America Big Rig track

Does anyone know? Is the start gate for the Big Rig track in its normal position for a Best track with the start end extended to accommodate the longer truck or is the start gate moved down the track and the start end is still at its normal height of about 4 feet ? What is the maximum weight a stock...

Re: Mid America Derby Apr 27 2019

I surely wish I could attend. That's got to be quite a party. I watch my neighbors house and they will not be back from Florida in April. Tell Gregg to move it into May. OK, I'm kidding.

Re: Advice on modifying car for districts please

Here's some weights on the wheels. China - all #1. 2.72, 2.73, 2.75, 2.76. USA. 8-2.55, 15-2.58, 11-2.55, 1-2.64 , 6-2.64, 5-2.53, 10-2.59 Pinewood Derby wheels are not flat, they are concave. If you set a wheel at the edge of a table, line your eye up with the very bottom of the wheel, use a strong...

Re: Advice on modifying car for districts please

I used the screw method a lot of years ago but it's a lot of work and not really worth doing. It tilted the rears ever so slightly and caused the rears to migrate to the axle heads. I think any bend in the axle is going to cause the wheels to go to the axle heads plus give the benefit to align the r...

Re: Prepping for districts

Gentlemen, I have 100 tubes of BSA wheels that were destined for a workshop for 100 Girl Scouts. The workshop never happened and I am still storing the wheels. Since I am retired I decided to check them on knots concentricity gauge. None of them are any good. The way to get a set of decent wheels is...

Re: Mid America Derby Apr 27 2019

They wouldn't need to split the divisions. The info would be in the computer. They could run them all together. They would not need to award some fancy trophy to the graphite division. A letter from Gregg would satisfy me. I think it might draw more trucks for the Class "B" division because it's a l...

Re: Is teflon dry lub compatible with graphite?

Please help me. I don't understand what you mean when you say you are trying to stretch the dry lubricant rule. Why would you not be using Hob-E-Lube graphite and learn how to lube the wheels by a recommended way. I have a tube in front of me with a $3.99 sticker on it. It can be purchased from Hobb...

Re: Mid America Derby Apr 27 2019

aircooled,I tried writing to Gregg's email but it came back undeliverable. A couple of us would like to race in the "B" class truck but we would like the graphite to be a separate category. They could still race them together but if you sign up for "graphite" only then that would be the only award y...
