Re: Need advice on permanent/near permanent lube.
Here's the car as promised. The only thing that came up on the test runs is that the inner hubs sit below the bottom of the car and ride on the guide strip in the breaking area after the finish line which makes the car bounce back after hitting the foam stopper. It rolls almost perfectly straight on...

Need advice on permanent/near permanent lube.
Hey guys. I've built a car for our council's mascot to bring to PWD races. He's a Sasquatch and he wanted it to be a stick with wheels. He tried last year and the wheels were at such bad angles that the slightest track imperfection would make it jump into the next lane. So I built him one out of a s...

Inflatable Raingutter Regatta Raceway Review
Last night I demoed the inflatable Raingutter Regatta Raceway at our District's Cub Scout Roundtable Meeting. This thing is awesome! With a cheap hand pump from Wal-Mart like this one , I was able to inflate it in under 2 minutes. It takes about 7 gallons of water per lane (not 4 like it says on the...

Re: List of all speed modifications in regards to rules crea
Stan, it's all in good fun. We'll be going with the "official BSA wheels" rule anyway. Please do let me know if you think of any other speed mods that I have missed.

List of all speed modifications in regards to rules creation
The next step in my quest to make up a decent set of rules is to determine which speed modifications will not be allowed. In order to do this, I feel it would be best to see a comprehensive list of all of the modifications that can be done to a car that (supposedly or actually) increase its speed. T...

Stands that a Cub Scout can build.
On a lighter note, I started thinking about how a car stand for each Scout would be a good idea. I read this post and thought those were really cool. However, my requirements included each Scout building and decorating his own stand as well as the stand being able to hold a picture of the Den. This ...

Re: List of Unenforceable Rules at Check-In
One of the rules that I was specifically interested in was the "No non BSA axles" rule. Based on this post the axles are distinguishable by sight. Is this by the point or the head? If the axles are in holes instead of slots, can they be distinguished by the head only?

Re: List of Unenforceable Rules at Check-In
Are you suggesting that it is not logical to focus on ideology in Cub Scouting? No. I'm saying that it is not logical to focus on ideology when it comes to competitions where there are winners and losers, in this case, the Pinewood Derby. If we're talking about What we're learning on camp-outs, at ...

Re: List of Unenforceable Rules at Check-In
FS, I have added condensed versions of the rules you listed to the OP. A serious question: Why do you think most Derby rules sets contain some "unenforceable" rules? (From where does the BSA start?) I think that well intentioned, but not highly logical people would like to eliminate specif...

List of Unenforceable Rules at Check-In
Hey guys. I am going to be chairing my Pack's Pinewood Derby for the first time this coming January. My son's first time racing was last year. Our rules from last year were too loose in some areas and unenforceable in others. So I'm planning an overhaul. I'm going to start by figuring out which rule...
