Re: An idea for the next iteration of BSA wheels
You could put several indents/grooves on the inside of the wheel that go across the width as I believe Sporty was suggesting, but putting lettering on the inside or a grooved ring would trap the steel on the part. You could get around some of that with something like a collapsible core, but that wou...

Re: gotta change up cars next year
I have been scoring the axle with a dremel then laying the axle over two pieces of wood, then dinging it with screwdriver and hammer. Crude, but works, just not very precise for the dfw. I think putting a flat spot like you mentioned on the axle on the non dfw side would be a good idea for adjustmen...

Re: gotta change up cars next year
We have to use the pinecar axle rods, but im sure I can find a way to figure out a way for alignment tweaking with those.

Re: gotta change up cars next year
I forgot about that video for the homemade razors. Link was broke, but found the one anyways ;) The boys want to start working on the cars already. We have plenty of extra wheels we can afford to chew up for practice. Unfortunately, we can't inset the hubs, so I think shaving them down will be a goo...

Re: gotta change up cars next year
We had been running two razor wheels in the back, minimized fourth wheel to accomdate four wheels present, and a full sized shaved dfw. Cars were built in a rush this year, that didn't help lol. The biggest issue I have been having is the back end can wiggle a bit; not sure how to correct that. I th...

gotta change up cars next year
Weve been racing in pioneers and have made it to the international race again this year with rail riders, but the Derby Magic track they moved us to causes the cars to jump on lane 1 in same place. Im assuming the lane rib is warped and not perpendicular to track. Time to make all razors and straigh...

Re: Wheel runout quality report
More than likely, they are running them too fast in the machine. Probably faster than the old single gated wheels being as from what i can see online is the walls are thinner. If the tool was messed up, it would always be for that cavity in that mold. More likely than not, it is all processing error...

thanks guys!
Just wanted to say thanks for the help this site has provided. My boys got 2nd and 3rd place at their local Pioneers event and will be moving on to the district event. I may also just put up a bit of info on nomenclature for the molding process of wheels. I do a bit of work in the injection molding ...

Re: Mold numbers and used/last year's wheels
The numbers in wheels indicate which cavity it came out of in the mold. It's all the same mold, but depending how the press was set up can make a world of difference in how the parts come out looking. One run of wheels may look different than the next and it can even change during the run; it depend...

Re: Pinecar one piece axles
Not sure im late here, but if you use the one piece axle, take an emory board and work the groove carefully til the axle can be pressed in by hand. If you hammer it in, you can possibly bend the axle. Generally, those axles tend to have lots of defects to begin with. Also, Pinecar usually has nails ...

We will accommodate the General Lee request for you with our next test run - we used older cars for that stunt so as not to damage the good ones lol
And the wife still thinks we are crazy, but she also is very happy that the boys participate and is impressed with what they have done.

Re: Building a 32ft single lane track
Timer problem is fixed. The microswitches I am using have three prongs/connectors on them - I will call them A, B, C. You can use a combination of A&B or A&C for an individual lone switch for something, but if you use A&C with a second switch, it won't work. You have to use A&B on bo...

Re: Building a 32ft single lane track
Well, ran in to two problems. 1) It's warm and humid on the lakeshore here in my neck of the woods; the laminate flooring expanded and now I have 1/8" gaps between my guide rails. I'm assuming I can grab a file, taper the one end so that when the wheel transitions to the next section it won't h...

Re: Building a 32ft single lane track
Had to take a break from finishing this project due to interviews and class work, but I got it finished last night. I'll have pictures later on today sometime after the kids and I bring the sections up from the basement. I'm very happy we managed to pull it off with minimal power tools (just a drill...
