Re: Speed Methods

Sporty, I figured I'd research all the areas first, that way the no-brainers like lube is better than no lube could be sorted out quickly. I'm also hoping that searching around the site and dredging up some dormant knowledge from college will help determine when a borderline idea is worth testing. O...

Speed Methods

Hey all, I've quickly browsed through the construction topics from all 53 pages and think I have a pretty comprehensive list of the different methods mentioned/used for speed. I realize some may serve the same purpose based on rules allowances but that's ok. I am trying to dig into each individually...

Is this giveaway still open? If so I'll hi-jack my wife's FB and like your page, as I too do not have nor plan on having a FB account.

Re: New Guy, Awana Grand Prix racer

My boys and I are in the make it look like a car group as well. My oldest wants to make fast cars but he wants to make cars, not wedges. Cars, that look like cars can also be fast. Fast cars that look like cars and boys doing most of the work are the goals for next year's race. These past two years...

Re: What is your “real job”?

By work hours I'm a Process/Manufacturing Engineer for an electronics manufacturer. We go back and forth between being a psuedo-OEM (government work) and contract manufacturer. At home I have a wife, four kids, a dog, a cat, and a house in constant repair. Our two boys are in AWANA, one is almost 7 ...

Re: So, what does your username mean?

Mine is from high school computer science classes. Our user ids were the first five letters of your last name and first initial. Stuck 'the' on front in college and it stuck.

My boys and I are in the make it look like a car group as well. My oldest wants to make fast cars but he wants to make cars, not wedges. I'm continuing to dig around so that with new knowledge and some trial builds this summer our cars will get up onto the podium. It should be doable, there are like...

Re: New Guy, Awana Grand Prix racer

Scrollsawer, Just in case it came across wrong, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic about the vintage look. My old car is shaped like a vintage pinewood derby car and painted in silver paint. It was a kit from when they still had the cock-pit cut out and I made it look like an old midget racer. I'm actu...

Along with all the other amazing realistic cars I see on here, all I can say is wow.

And wonder how on earth you can make something like that.

Re: New Guy, Awana Grand Prix racer

Scrollsawer, Thanks for the compliments. The last car I made is even more 'vintage' because I painted it as a kid with left over house paint. My kids still like playing with it. The kids cars are all weighted with some lead shot and hot glue that was available at the race during check-in. Another on...

New Guy, Awana Grand Prix racer

Hi All, I've been looking around a lurking for a while, and decided to start posting. I'll try and keep this short ... we just started doing Awana Grand Prix races last year, and have built a total of 5 cars. I hadn't done any races of this sort since I was a Cub Scout in the early 90s. All of these...
