Re: Tip: Be careful with weird wheelbases!

Here's his final product. Just looking at that wheelbase hurts. Hope we tuned it right! ;)

Re: Tip: Be careful with weird wheelbases!

I find it interesting that they're still using the old Shape N Race Derby name rather than the new StocKar Derby name. Presumably, they're getting their kits from the Shape N Race company rather than from CSB Ministries. I think they're calling it Shape 'n' Race out of tradition from when they've h...

CSB “shape n race kits!

Wood block 2-1/4w x 1-1/8 h x 6-15/16 L
Off set 7/32 inch deep axle slots..
With a wheel base of 3-11/16 inches.

From a performance perspective, that's pretty crazy.

It does make for more realistic looking cars when coupled with fenders, though.

Tip: Be careful with weird wheelbases!

So my son got a chance to build ANOTHER car this season, as our church's Christian Service Brigade troop(?) is holding an overnight lock-in followed by a Shape-n-Race Derby. Well, my son is already engaged in Trail Life, but since a lot of his friends from church are in CSB, he's gonna hang out with...

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules

Glad my family isn't building cars for that race.

Double elimination SUCKS.

Also deliberately prohibiting rail riding? Duuuumb.

Re: Our 2019 Cars

Woo Wee! Look'en Good !!! VK kids! VK, Do you know if there is any benefit to treating the wheel bores with pledge as well for the graphite lubes ? If it works good for axles why not the wheel bores also. (Just thought I'd ask if you have tried this .) Y'know, I was wondering that same thing myself...

Re: Our 2019 Cars

Great looking cars. Reminds me of the Daytona 500. I have a couple of questions. What is Plast-X and where can it be purchased? The nail? The nail comes with a shiny zinc coating. Can any amount of sanding or polishing actually make the nail more slippery? The wheel bore is polished, then 3 coats o...

Our 2019 Cars

Figured I'd share the details of our latest family builds here. We've left the BSA and our kids do American Heritage Girls and Trail Life now. It so happened that one of the TL Troops in the area runs a joint race for Trail Life and AHG, so our Troop participated. They didn't restrict what kits we u...

Re: Krytox 100 Withdrawn by Manufacturer

I guess the Pinewood Derby community isn't a large enough consumer to sway the minds of a big industrial giant.

Re: Scouts - Girls and Boys

I've always thought "Powder Puff" was a terrible name for a girls' race. What's it got to do with racing?

Re: Is teflon dry lub compatible with graphite?

I have never ever ever heard of anyone having good luck with dry telflon lube for pinewood derby applications.

Don't use that junk. :) I would stick with Pledge if you feel it is within the scope of the rules.

I really like those cars in this month's gallery! Very creative incorporation of fenders into a design that actually looks like a race car!

Re: Hello brand new here.

Cyanoacrylate popularly known as Super glue. Only the inside hub will touch and stay at that point because of the toe-in. I'm interested in this. Should I use something like Loctite Ultragel Control or the "runny" stuff or does it make any difference? Would this be worth doing even if you are limit...

Re: Hello brand new here.

Do 4 before 3. Actually, I think 4 is usually done before 1. email Vitamin K and ask him if you should tape over the wheel holes and leave the wood bare. If I'm running graphite, I will leave the wood bare and just rub graphite into the wood. If I'm running oil, though, I will apply a few layers of...

Tried to bend a axel tonight using the board trick. Total failure. Not only did it not bend it hurt my hand . Maybe my axels are crome? I think maybe I've been pranked. Buying the axel bender I tap with hammer tonight.
What kind of axles are you using?
