Re: Tired of scratched wheel bores from pipe cleaner wires ?

Small dot of hot glue works on the end of the wire if you trim back a little of the bristles. It doesn't take much to get a drop to dry on the end. I put a melted puddle on a plate and just dip the wire in, doing a few at a time before it cools. Trim any strings after it is cooled.

Re: Building a 100 Foot Track

You should purposely have the lattice overhang one end. Then it can overlap the next segment to attach the two segments together.

Check this site for a track that was built with the similar materials that you are using:

Re: Pinewood Derby World Championship

I was glad to hear they added a pro class with more universal rules. I assumed they just added the new class so they didn't mess with the originally posted rules and be fair to the local council scouts who already built cars to those specifications. Then I looked at the posted rules and was left scr...

Re: Building a 100 Foot Track

You don't really need to cannibalize two tracks. You just borrow the flat track sections. You can keep the start gate and finish line from the primary track, probably need longer cables. Add an extra flat section after the start gate section before the curve then add the rest to the flat. You could ...

Re: Troop 816 - Blastcar Event (with pics!)

Thanks for sharing. It's too bad blast cars didn't really catch on for boy scouts. In my opinion they should have made it more like the middle school shop class CO2 car drag races.

Re: Cubmobile Derby in the News

I thought cubmobiles were supposed to be ran on flat ground and have a 2nd scout pushing the car while the driver steered.

Re: District level Survey Monkey

What tracks are the packs using? If any have their own there should be no reason they can't lend it for the district derby. $300 rental is pretty steep. Our district rents it's track out to all the packs for around $20. I think that may even extend to some non scout entities. The big drawback for th...

Re: Pinewood Derby World Championship

I am fine with rules limiting modifications to wheels and axles but for the body I think you really should let it be more open. As long as it meets the dimension rules for traveling down the track without interfering with other cars or the finish line gate they should be able to do what they want fo...

Re: Oil to Graphite

A lot of the fastest pinewood derby car builders got their behinds whooped when they were first helping their scout build a fast car. Taking that loss and using it as motivation to really look at what works to build a fast car and testing against other builders. Just like sports or any other skill y...

Re: Oil to Graphite

I think it is much harder to tune a car to roll straight then it is to have it roll consistently off center for rail riding.

Re: gotta change up cars next year

I guess it really depends on which way the car is coming off but I would leave the DFW a little bigger just to help keep the car on the track if you are having issues with it coming off. If your rear end has wiggle but the front is staying on the rail I would focus on your rear axle hole drilling pr...
