Re: Team Masco Lineup
Yes. Have you started :pullhair: yet? Weight is one factor but reading comments from the guys that lathe their own wheels and they say the revell made in china versions are also more likely out of round. They have to do more work to get them round then the USA wheels. The only reason the revell axl...

Re: Team Masco Lineup
If you have a local scout office that has the official colored wheels made in the USA you will want to use those. Both are deemed official BSA parts but the Revell version made in China are heavier. A lot of guys buy the Revell wheel packs just to get the axles and throw the wheels in the junk pile...

I'd say an unfair advantage would be having the pack's track set up in your basement for you to use. Are you inviting all the scouts to have equal time with the track?

Re: Team Masco Lineup
@fatsebastian - I'm surprised to hear that. But after the results I had, obviously my technique is way too aggressive. You can see the obvious "cone" shape I was talking about in my original post. I ran some tests on my extended wheel base car last night, and the Revell axles (polished wit...

Team Masco Lineup
This is my son's third PWD race and this year I was volunteered to run the race. So, I decided to add a sibling race and an adult race... Should be a lot of fun. Wanted to share progress with others that enjoy building these. My Bear Scouts car (one coat of paint so far, hopefully it will look bette...

Quick Start Front
I've been looking at the book "Pinewood Derby Speed Secrets" by David Meade (for a couple years now) and the "Quick Start" design has always been something I've wondered about. We have never done it, but curious about the experiences people have had with this design. Basically, t...

Re: Shrink Plastic on PWD
Thanks to all. Being our third season, we have the basics down. This year we are planning on doing a 3 wheel car and putting positive cant on the rear and negative on the FDW. I will probably start another post as we being the build to share and ask questions during the process. I'm glad I found thi...

Re: Shrink Plastic on PWD
Speedster - Thanks, I just ordered the book on Amazon! And I will try to do a better job of using the search function :-) This is my sons third year and we just watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RjJtO51ykY and we both learned a lot. Outlined the physics in a way not only my son cou...

Shrink Plastic on PWD
Excuse my naivety, but I've been thinking (which is dangerous), and based on my understanding there are elements which have the biggest impact on speed. 1) Weight and COM - maximizing potential energy and stability 2) Aerodynamics - wind resistance One approach is to maximize the potential energy by...

Re: Team Vitamin K 2015 Lineup/Progress
Sweet car. Looks similar to my sons from last year. I am new, and once I figure out how to post pics I will. The image you posted is what our rough cut looked like, but we ended up removing about 60% of the fender wood when we cut wheel holes and rounded all the edges. We also removed about 70% of t...
