Re: Cubmasters Challenge Castrol Lemans Car
Just wanted to follow up and again say thanks. It was a great day and a great race today. Son took 1st overall, Daughter 1st in siblings, and the lemans car took 1st in the adult race. If intersted, a picture of those is here: http://www.geocities.com/kcobbva/pwderby/2008/2008_family_pinewood_derby_...

Re: Cubmasters Challenge Castrol Lemans Car
Thanks very much. I wish I could say it was all a simple task, but sure had a few setbacks. The car ended up to wide to fit into my dremel scroll saw, so I had to revert back to the mitre box and hand saw to cut numerous cuts across the body, then chip away the wood. Looked great on one side and was...

Re: Cubmasters Challenge Castrol Lemans Car
Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the great idea! I saw this post at the beginning of last year and dropped a copy into my Pinewood Derby folder as a "wouldn't it be nice" project. Tomorrow is my final year running our PWDerby before my son crosses over into Scouts and I wanted to ...

Re: Just A Note Of Thanks To Everyone
Congratulations to your boys!! What an outstanding way to experience your first Pinewood Derby! You are correct about this board. I've stumbled upon this a few years ago and there's nothing but incredible folks passing their knowledge on. Please post some pics of your boys car. I'm sure many of us w...

Re: kit cars - not eBay but is it really different!
Randy, First of all, congratulations to You and Alex on all your races! You guys have made it through Webs and have done fantastic overall! Also, awesome looking car for the last one! I am disheartened to hear about the way this race ended up afterwards. While these products are out there to purchas...

Re: Videos of Our Pack's Pinewood Derby and Cubmobile Races
I've so wanted to do a cubmobile race for our pack, but finding a place in our area to run one has been very difficult. Your video is simply outstanding! Man it really makes me WANT TO FIND A PLACE!!! Thanks for sharing the fun!

Re: Judges handling cars and car labeling
We award 1st through 3rd trophies in ea category. I do like your approach as well. Worth a discussion at our next committee meeting. Thanks! For the past several years, we've been awarding trophies only for the top speed and design awards, and have been awarding medals for everything else.

Re: Judges handling cars and car labeling
I can appreciate your feelings. However, we had to work within a budget and can only afford so many trophies. With that I have to agree with our committe's decision to spread the trophies. I wanted more for other things which couldn't be budgeted, so I created customized certificates to issue to the...

Re: Judges handling cars and car labeling
Darin, No. I should have clarified that better. In our local pack race, we allow the boys to join both. However, if they decide to build a car out of the race specifications for show, they only enter the show. If the boys win in speed, they are not able to win show. This allows more of the boys to h...

Re: Judges handling cars and car labeling
We used similar approaches. We printed labels numbering the cars. Each boy has already been entered into our database and been assigned a # prior to the race. If they don't show, the number is is dropped and not used. When they check in, a small label is placed on the bottom side of the car with the...

My father and I built this one in the early to mid 70s when I was in Indian Guides in Tx. I really don't recall how it raced, but I still treasure it today. Dad and I made it! http://www.geocities.com/kcobbva/pwcar/vansmall.jpg If the picture doesn't come out you can see it here: http://www.geocitie...

Re: Sponsorships, donations, and fund raisers?
Randy, Hey best of luck again this year! And congrats on Cubmaster. We used a local trophy engraver who does many of the sports trophies in the area. WE got a mix of 5" 4" and 3" trophies for a total of 30 and it only ran us $141.75. I would think you might be able to find the same ou...

Re: Correct COG Placement
Stan, Ok. So 20% is approximately 1 ounce on the front (with the typical 5oz car). I tested my son's the other day (all races are done now) and found we had .96 ounce on the front. I would assume, that would fit into the model you mention "just less than 20%". That track we ran at the dist...

Re: Correct COG Placement
hmm. I know we race on a 35' supertrack in the Den race and a 32' Piantedosi track in the districts. However, I've not seen mention of this measurement with the supertrack before. Will dig around a little.
Thanks for the reply Stan.

Correct COG Placement
I hate to beat a dead horse with as many topics with this as there are, but I'm trying to determine one thing and hope you all can clear this up for me. When determining the cog of the car. I read many topics and other materials stating 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 ", but from two locations. One being from t...
