Re: Is it feasible, that a 7oz. car could beat a 10 oz. car?
Our scout district is having an "Ultimate Pinewood Derby Race". The weight limit is 10 ounces and we can use speed wheels and axles. Last year was the first year for the race, but we missed it. We were told that the heavier 10 ounce cars lost out to cars weighing around 7 ounces. With eve...

Re: Axle Bending
Try switching out the front wheel with the wheel that is causing the steering and re-test. Sometimes, there is a bit of a difference in bore friction between the 2 rear wheels that will show up as a wiggle. Since you did not mention what process you used to prep the wheels then i would suspect that ...

Re: 2009 Derby Cars - Moms DB9
Looks like a fun car to build and the technique she is using is the way to go. One thing that you might not have considered. BSA wheel diameter might be a little bit larger than what you have in your template/pic. If this is the case, you could always make wheel wells such that the tires are inset a...

Re: What's new
The season is still just now getting underway, as far as the suppliers are concerned. I heard, through a good connection, there might be a new tool or 2 coming for this season. Keep checking around the Middle of next month.

Re: Bending an axle
How about an off center drilled 1/4" wood/plastic dowel that is about 3/4" long to hold the axle tips? Before camber the wood dowel "Floats". Rotating the wood dowel 180 degrees such that the axle tips are now down to induce camber. Wood dowel can then be held in place with small...

Re: Buying New Track Any Mods Required For Running Trucks?
A recent league race included the "Big Rigs". There was some width clearance problems at the start gate with a couple of the rigs being a little wider. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this was on a Best track which had an added extension. From the look of the video, it looks as if the start...

Re: Anybody Tried "Dope" Finishes?
Never have used this but looks like a laquer type of paint. The only thing that would trouble me would be the cost per amount of paint. You can a pre-mixed 2 ounce bottle of metallic base coat HOK paint HERE for $5.95. Rattle Can Duplicolor filler primer is great to work with and since you are cover...

Re: Help, need advice on inconsistent times
The inconsistancy isn't that far out of line if the car itself is not aligned to it's maximum potential. One thing you will want to check is how level the track is in both directions. A laser level is a tool that will help with this. You might have to put a shim here and there in order to get your t...
