Re: The Big Day

I'm guessing time is a factor. All cars going down all lanes once should still be pretty even.

Re: The Big Day

Our pack race is run that way. I like it because it mixes up the cars you run with. Our district uses lane rotation so you always have the same cars in the adjacent lanes as your car moves from right to left across the lane in each heat. In each case, your car will run once in each lane. I think th...

Re: The Big Day

I had never seen it done this way, but all racers got four heats at random, each time in a different lane. Head-to-head races didn't matter so much as the computer system simply took all four heats and averaged out the times. The final results were based on the four-race average. Has anyone else ev...

Re: The Big Day

So today was our Pack race day, not districts. It's interesting to hear about the process you guys went through, though. We had to check-in same-day. Took about the first 45 minutes. I was honestly shocked that all they did was weigh the cars and measure them in a box during inspection. Didn't reall...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

Thanks, Speedster. Is the alcohol wiping just for the purpose of cleaning the nail surface completely?

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

Did the axels by blasting the graphite into the axels with a "beadblasting" booth, the theory is to "impact" the graphite into the metal but we will see how it goes. Interesting. I usually pour out graphite on a paper plate and rub each wheel's inner hub in it to get a nice, shi...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

Heh, I don't really have a good metric here. I guess I give them 2-3 good finger-spins as I add the graphite to make sure that it's worked in there well. I will add graphite from both sides, btw...under the axle head and then in the gap between wheel and body. Perfect! I appreciate that. That was m...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

For axles with graphite, I just: - Deburr the axle (If using BSA axles) - Chamfer the head slightly (if this ends up cutting a small groove under the head that's fine) - Polish the axle with grits 600 - 3000 (If it's not a BSA axle, I skip 600 and go straight to 1000) - Spray with Pledge if I'm goi...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

I suppose thats why they call it "Hater Sauce"! Anyways.. for me, i wont be using it. Seems I should have found this board before purchasing such things. So my axels came out great with a wet pumice sanding and graphite barnishing all done on a lathe, I decided against the grooved axels I...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

I feel like the difference would be nominal, really. Not saying it doesn't exist. Just not sure it's worth whatever the markup is. I could be wrong, though. It all depends. Is it worth it to somebody like me? Heck no. I am as tightfisted a Pinewood Derby addict as you're ever likely to find. Howeve...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

I'm a little new to this, but imma call BS on that mess right now. More than likely, that's just some guy pushing the next "snake oil". That said, there's a guy with axles on eBay that claim they are "sealed" with a special "Krytox solvent" that evaporates after applic...

Re: Best axles for a "by the rules car"?

"Hater Sauce" Ah, okay, "Hater Sauce" is Krytox with a proprietary additive that the seller claims makes it faster than regular Krytox. Either way, Krytox is NOT a dry lube. It is wet all of the time. It does not dry by race time. If you run a car with Krytox and then remove the...

If you can tell me the name of the product, I can comment on what I know of it.
I'm gonna guess Krytox.
