Re: Stock Block
WOW!! I haven't posted in over 11 years!! .... But I enjoyed the challenge of PWD for a few years. :offtopic: About seven years for me. With no more children of racing age, PWD is now more about assisting with an occasional organizational race. That presents a different challenge, with different re...

Re: Stock Block
WOW!! I haven't posted in over 11 years!! I'm pretty sure all our cars are in a bin about 4 feet from me, but they are buried from every angle. That's assuming I kept all of them. I was really burned out after 7 years of PWD!! Once I figured out how to make a fast car the challenge was gone. I think...

Re: What is your “real job”?
Speaking of "Holy Dead Thread Resurrection", I made the second post in this thread over 9 years ago. I haven't involved in PWD since my son graduated to Boy Scouts 8 years ago. Why am I back? I have no idea what led me back, or how long I'll stay. Although I still get Randy's monthly newsl...

Re: Finished!
I have a steel version of the Pro Body tool that locates in the slot and use a reamer to make nice straight axle holes. I use the Pro Axle block in a vice with a screw driver hammer to bend the rear axles 2.5 degrees (check with a custom gage) and the dominant front axle 1.5 degrees. I use a flat 6f...

Re: Finished!
I did that once a few years ago before Rail Riding and when Stan's wax paper shim method of alignment was popular. Definitely lost a few hairs!!

Re: Pinewood derby, pack committees
Our Pack never took the PWD seriously, it was just another Pack meeting so no effort was ever put into it. Our Cub Master always said at the Pack Committee meeting, "This is our PWD Committee", but they only person that did any planning was me. I was PWD Chairman for the last 4 years befor...

Re: how much weight do you allow for primer, paint and clear?
Always allowed 6 grams for paint. Weight was installed before painting. Used lead golf tape to add the final few grams and to allow adjustment at the race.

Re: How do you keep / get graphite off the paint job??
I used to wrap the car in plastic wrap, that had slits cut in it for the axles, before adding graphite. Did a good job of keeping the graphite off of the paint. Never tried running a car with it on though.

Re: We win again
Congrats!! I know all about PWD burnout. Out last 2 years I was just going through the motions, we took 2nd in every event. Now that our youngest son has moved on to Boy Scouts I don't really miss the PWD. I just got an email from the old Pack asking for the PWD handouts I've been giving all the kid...

Re: How deep are you in?
The hardest part is when your PWD "career" is over, what do you do with all of the PWD specific tools, extra parts, and track & timer? Many of them I custom designed and had made at work. I don't want to sell them quite yet, our daughter might have a Girl Scout PWD, but her Troop vanis...

I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. Never tried it. My PWD career ended this past spring (son crossed over to Boy Scouts). For sale if anyone wants it.

Since my son crossed over to Boy Scouts last Spring, I'll have my garage available this Winter for the first time in 6 years. Have to put the track & timer up for sale soon.

Re: Something vintage to share
It looks like you beat me out buying some of the bulk kits on eBay a couple of years ago!! ;) I did get a few old kits and a really cool car probably made in the 60's, there's thread on here somewhere. I also picked up the original October 1954 issue of Boys Life where they introduce the PWD. BetaCr...

Re: Final PWD race
PDaddy~ Suspecting you've experienced the phenomena of personal time acceleration - its where time speeds up proportional to the number of birthdays beyond age 35 each successive birthday. If this concept is foreign to you, get ready for it. It's as certain as eye correction and taxes. It is in thi...
