wheel gaps
Hi - Does anyone have a view they are willing to share on appropriate gaps between wheel and body? Set up follows: Thin (5/16) rail runner with 3 wheels touching. Rear wheels drilled for 3 degree cant DFW drilled straight, bent axle for adjusting drift wheel base 4 1/2''. (I know that's odd, but it'...

Re: Stop section
Very helpful, thanks everyone. Will work on getting a new stop section together by next year. It's unacceptable to have cards losing fenders/wheels/axles through no fault of the scouts.

Stop section
My sons went to Districts this year for the first time. It turns out they use a wooden track with a stop section that is a car cruncher:

Any suggestions on how to improve this stop section so that it is less of a demolition derby at the end of each heat?

I don’t understand why packs have different rules than the district. It seems like it’s just singing up for hassle. Our pack just adopted the district rules.

Re: Non-tungsten, non-toxic car
Excellent! Although the local pack runs the derby near Presidents' day weekend, so I would leave Mr. Lincoln visible.

Non-tungsten, non-toxic car
Thought I'd share a rough concept car that could be built by a cub scout that doesn't have $20 to burn on 4oz of tungsten and who also would like to avoid exposure to lead. Depending on the pack, some boys might really appreciate the option to build on a budget. The car uses pennies for weight, whic...

Re: Prepping for districts
Is it possible to set up the drill press to actually end up with rounder wheels than you start out with? I was afraid those efforts might just make things worse.

Re: Prepping for districts
Thanks Ironband. I'll definitely follow the plan with the runout gauge and wheel prep. I've also heard the Pledge rumor, but our pack and district rules specifically ban the use of silicone spray.

Prepping for districts
Hi all- Brand new to the forum, but really appreciate all the info folks share here and it paid off - my sons (tiger and bear) went 1&2 in their pack, so are on to districts in May. This will be the first time they've raced more than 1 day in the season. Any tips or tricks for prepping for the n...
