Re: Pinewood Derby World Championship

Randy, I've experienced the same thing. My sons second year in scouts, his best friend was forced to severely damaged their car as back then we had the no axle cant rule. Axle got bent after it was checked in but before the races started. The glue they had put on hardened that way. The car should ha...

Re: Pinewood Derby World Championship

NYCracer, Good luck with your event. Sounds like fun. One question on the bent/canted axle rule. How do you currently enforce this? It's been my experience that using those slots, it's almost impossible to insert axles straight. We've had parents crack the wood putting axles in or have them go in on...

93SRG axles back in stock at DerbyEvolution

Steve from DerbyEvolution wanted everyone to know he just received his latest shipment of the 93SRG axles. He's been out of stock for a bit but they're in now and ready to go.

Re: No Weight Allowed???

I like the idea of using heavier woods and decorate with those.

Maybe a psuedo plank and child's name out of a much denser wood cut out and sitting on top?

Re: No Weight Allowed???

The decoration aspect is the key. Call the car "Loose Change" and use coinage if allowed. If no decorations, find the heaviest kit you can. Cut it in two. First piece is a 1/4" slab to build the actual car out of. Drill your holes, everything. SEAL it very good with clear coat. Take t...

Re: 1 gram wheels

If you're talking the cnc/lathed BSA wheels, the only part of the wheel that may it may not be cut is the bore. All the other points of concern are cut by the various vendors. Derby Worx does ream the bores on their 1 gram BSA wheel, to .098 I believe. Who's are the best? I can't say anymore. I quit...

Re: Tapering the nail head

I'll second the fact of flattening heads of axles using the axle press. I've done it, seen many a parent at our workshops do it too. Watched patents use the non beveled side and really flatten them. Don't get me started on the whole things of the DW tools being sold in the scout shops but using them...

Try touching base with xanthrum, aka Greg Dawes. He runs the Mid America race out in Omaha. He might be able to steer you in a good direction locally.

As long as the body has enough strength, the lighter the better. It lets you put the weight where you want it.

Re: Wotamalo District 2014 just went to [junk]...

Usually this kind if change reflects a couple of possibilities. One is that they are concerned about a noticable drop in registrations and fear they aren't going to have a large enough turnout to cover costs. Second, on top of the first, there may be some thought that the scouts who didn't do well i...

Topspin, it's probably turtle wax bought by the gallon and sold for $10 per oz. ;) Noskills. PS I have no idea what it is but I bought some Red Red and I like my results this year. I am too much a a scientist to say much more than this bit of anecdotal evidence. I don't have the luxury of conductin...
