Re: Power Tools & WHO?
I finally sat down with my DE in a quiet place. He admits the only references to Power Tools are in the Boy Scout books. The latest G2SS contains no reference to Power Tools at all. He back pedalled to where if it's OK with the Property owner then a Leader or the business owner may operate the power...

Stan speaks the truth with respect to grain direction. The orientation of the grain will show you where the weak areas are.
Hopefully your son will be blessed and race a smooth track. If in doubt, perhaps adding a filet of epoxy to prone corners might help.

Re: What to do about bought e-bay car?
I hope the Boy now has time to create something he is proud of & learns something about the build in the process.
Well done doc1010.

Re: What to do about bought e-bay car?
Step 1) Print the page from eBay. Step 2) Show it to your Cubmaster. Step 2) Should be to ask the boy (in the presence of Dad) if he made the car. Step 4) Will depend on the outcome of the first 3. A lot depends on the grounds you were asked to serve as a PWD Chair. In most cases your position is to...

Re: NEWBIE MOM AND DAD HERE! Please help!
Alexia & John, At the risk of soundimng like a broken record I am going to also suggest recruiting an experienced Scouter within your Pack or Den. If this is uncomfortable or fails to solve the problem, a good "Plan B" would be to find a local retired person who was in Scouts or has ex...

Re: Tape Axle Slots before painting ?
A folded business card in the groove serves to keep excessive paint out of the groove as well as needed support to keep a drying car from sticking to "stuff".

Re: How far to insert the axles?
That was interesting. I just checked Stephen's "First in Council" car & the space between the body & the hub is about 3/64" on the three wheels on the floor. The raised wheel (front right) was nearly 1/8"! There's no saying for sure if this was the case on race day howeve...

Re: Power Tools & WHO?
DaGK, I know that my DE consulted our Scout Executive. Where they found this "policy" is a mystery as of now. Perhaps it is just an opinion at this point. I haven't challnged the issue yet. That I think should not be by phone or email but I live near our Council office & will visit in ...

NE-II-143 wrote: The dilemma: BSA forbids the Boys using power tools in a workshop with or without a Tour Permit. Power Tools & WHO?
My son is well trained in the use of the only two power tools we ever use to build his car and these are the scroll saw & drill press. This year some Parents & Leaders want a workshop that results in a finished car rather than the version we offered last year where individual skill sets were...

Re: Micro-Wizard Question
Thanks Randy....We will be needing some type of accompanying software I suppose. I'll have a new laptop before our 2006 Derby. Is Race Manager 5.0 made by & available from Micro-Wizard?

Micro-Wizard Question
Hi Folks, New email means new user name. But I am still "Stephen's Dad"! Our Pack was just donated a Micro-Wizard GP3 for 6 lanes. However our track is a Piantedosi Pinewood 4 lane unit. I can't see any reason why we can't leave 2 lanes unused. Will this "confuse" the timer &...
