Serial Port Systems

I would like sources/opinions on a Serial Port timer to work with GPRM. I built the parallel system that is in the GP Race Central site (used with GPRM v6), so I assume I can still use the start switch and sensors. http://derbytimer.com/diy/ has stuff that would be a good match, but they have all be...

Retrofit Aluminum Plating

We have an old wooden track that needs to be refurbished.
Has anyone used the Beta Crafts Aluminum plating? http://www.betacrafts.com/catalog/produ ... ucts_id=61

I would like to find instructions on how it is installed, especially the joining of the track lengths.

Thanks.

GPRM v7 No More Parallel Port

Last year I built the timer with the plans from this site. I believe it uses the parallel port. If I upgrade to v7, is there some way to convert the timer to a serial port?

Thanks Derby Talk and GPRM!

Hello Derby Talk Readers Last year I bought GPRM to manage the roster and generate schedules for our pack pinewood derby (my first). We were using Mk I eyeballs to determine results. This year I built the circuit from this website. I made a testing rig, and when I ran the hardware test from GPRM and...

Re: How Do I test the Start Sensor Circuit

I have removed all the LEDs from the circuit, and it is not connected to the parallel port; it looks just like the picture in the first post. If I measure the voltage on the left Quad Comparator, between pin 12 (ground) and pin 2 (Output 1) the meter reads .1 volt. Is that a problem? When I attach t...

Re: How Do I test the Start Sensor Circuit

A more specific question may help me - The instructions from the website: To test each comparator output, one at a time, take a small length of wire and connect from the lane/start input of the quad comparator (pins 4, 6, 8, and 10) to ground. The holes at the back of the wire terminals are good for...

Re: How Do I test the Start Sensor Circuit

I will study that info you posted NealOnWheels and see if I can make sense of it. The plans I am using are here: http://grandprix-race-central.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7 I just hooked up the "optional" LEDs between E25-H25, E23-H23, E29-H29, E27-H27, E31-H31. These all light up w...

How Do I test the Start Sensor Circuit

Hello I am building the circuit on this site. I am now ready to "Test the Quad Comparator Outputs". My feeble brain needs a more detailed description of doing this. Pic of circuit: http://grandprix-race-central.com/images/electronics/ss_board2.jpg The instructions state to test for voltage across th...

I am also searching for M Lastufka's software; can't find a current site with his articles or apps.

Thanks.

Quad Comparator Pins

Hello
How can I determine the pin numbering on these chips? The packaging didn't explain anything. I am building the circuit from the plans on this website, 4 lane version.

Thanks!

Multimeter Question

Hello It's been 25 years since I held a soldering iron; I have some questions regarding power supply construction and using the multimeter. I assembled the power supply shown in the Content portion of the website, using a 12 volt transformer. When I put the meter on the transformer leads, the meter ...

Regatta and Grand Prix Race Manager

Hello We will have ~30 cubs on a 2 lane regatta track. When I generate a Perfect-N chart, it creates 60 heats. I would prefer fewer heats due to time constraints, and am now thinking about double-elimination. I don't believe Grand Prix Race Manager supports double elimination. Is anyone aware of a t...
