Re: cant on dominant front wheel

I didnt notice the similar thread below when I posted this. We did OK, 2nd in our rank at district, but we need to take it up a notch for council. My son did the axles and wheel bores the night before, they werent perfect, I know last yrs council car was noticeably faster on the alignment board, but ...

cant on dominant front wheel

I have read to cant the front dominant wheel positive, whereas the rear wheels are negative cant. I understand the reason for this is that the inner edge rides on the rail and turns on it instead of rubbing it However , it nags at me that this cant will force the wheel hub to rub the car body. I gue...

Re: Rebuild due to technicality

Overall length and width I agree with, Usually they have a box they put it in to check those. I have never heard a case where the 1 3/4" wasnt just an advisory , or the 3/8" clearance too. Those just keep you from having a car that wont work really. Now if it says 3/8" is the minimum ...

Re: How to sharpen a Pro Wheel Shaver XT II?

OOps.

Almost forgot. I did use a couple pieces of tape I recall behind the blade to keep the correct angle when I did my touch ups.

Trying to do it any other way changed the bevel enough to make really tapered wheels for me.

Re: Which should be the focus of a Council Derby

At district, when you may have 400 hundred cars, you normally schedule the ranks to show up at different times anyway. That prevents having people waiting around hours for the 4 heats their kid runs. Or you may run the rank races on multiple tracks to speed things up, no one ever said you can only u...

Yep, got to have SOME wood left there.

I dropped my sons while putting trim wt on at weigh in this yr and broke the nose clean off, and it has things done to it to make it more durable.

Re: Outsmarting the mavericks at the check in

I agree graphite fouls tracks horribly. Aluminium tracks should be wiped down with methanol (denatured alcohol) on a rag to clean and remove the graphite periodically. Funny, that also would remove oils too just fine. For oils to work, they have to be used very sparingly, so getting it all over the ...

Re: Controlling Cant at checking

I dont think you should worry about it. Canting may or may not be advantageous, it depends on other factors. Plenty of people have had bad results with it. In any case, sticking axles is slots crooked is not out of the reach of anyone, and is commonly the result of a car built by a kid without adult...

Re: Proper way to drill hole for weight pocket

We just use the 3/8" tungsten round pieces, they are denser than the squares.

Just drill holes . Done. Insert wt, add superglue and the wt becomes a structural part of the car. We leave very very little wood doing this

Re: What are the odds?

Yes it happens, but how is 4th in pack undefeated? You may not have lost a heat head-head but you were defeated. When my kid was a tiger, we spent time building a nice looking car, lots of time on looks. We did make it a 3 wheeler fortunately. We race on an aluminum bestrack. Then I poured 1" d...

Re: Outsmarting the mavericks at the check in

Some lube up at home, and break it in, and then show up and dont have to bother with lubing up again. The car is slower if the graphite is not broken in beforehand. Most cars that have graphite are covered in it, fingerprints, smudges, all over inside of wheel. This too can be faked. I have heard of...

Re: Handling qualifying for Council Races

We allow kids with no pack derby to compete at districts. This is because some packs alternate yearly between pwd, raincutter regata, space derby , etc. But everyone at council must have finished in the top 3 or so in their rank at district. They change it and loosen the regs if too few kids were th...

Re: Entrants Fee for Council Race Event

our district fee is $65 per pack, which covers 3 from each rank, thats ~$4-5 per kid if they all would show. They dont. I have had to pay the full $65 for just my son before.

Our council is $7 per kid, much more reasonable.
